If there are noise control problems then great, else you've the usual 'electric problems' of carting (very expensive) batteries and / or waiting to recharge same, instead of simple 'gallon of mixed' !! IMO.
I draw the line at my BL 6S stretched E-Maxx.
Bit negative, but that's my opinion.

seen some videos, nothing really impresses me. brushless has its pros over nitro in smaller scale, but we don't have the problems nitros do. the only thing brushless has over a gas motor is the lack of noise, providing noise is an issue.

i think to build something half impressive you need an airplane setup and 12s lipo, but thats just me.

All Good points. Something I thought about trying out maybe during the winter season as a project. In the meantime I'll still have 3 engines in my 3 cleons.

you haven't seen my buddies bl rampage mt. not even a ts motor would out do its power. and as for expensive batteries......... we buy ours from hobby king. a 2s 5000mah for $20.

You're talking about 2S.
Big petrol trucks will require at least 8S, or 12S.
Those used to blasting and bashing petrol trucks / buggies will want to do the same, thus will want reliable, water-proofed, high capacity, high-S LiPo's or LiFe's, I believe only made reliably by MaxAmps, so we will be talking mega $$$$$$$$. IMHO. :(:o:D:o:(

those max amps packs are ok, but are overrated imo.
I would use the Polyquest or Enerland packs.
Maybe SMC for lipos.

if you use LiFes, you can buy some newer style Dewalt packs (18.8v i think) for around 100. each.

trueth be told turnigy cells are the same as max amps. i just gave you an idea of the cost through hobbyking with the 2s you can get a 6s for around $50-60 at 5000mah. the higher the c rating the more $ but the prices are still very cheap. and those are the same ones my buddy uses. the motor my buddy runs in his rampage is as big around as a popcan and cost him $850us. he 12s and our baja's can't touch him if he's getting traction that is. he had a 50lbs kid laying on it at the track one day as he was driving around the track.

he had to switch to metal gears cause that was his longest one he got with plastic ones. normally he would get about 2-3 minutes and then 3 out of 4 gears would strip. tooooooooooo much torque for plastic.

i did some research inti lipo cells a while ago, turns out there are 5 manufacturors of lipo cells we used in rc today. max amps and turnigy did not use the same cells from what i remember. on top of that (at least in canada) your house and car insurance companies have a list of lipo cells that they don't approve, and if you have one in your house/car and the house burns down you have no insurance. iirc, turnigy used a cell that wasnt approved.

your insurance is something to keep in mind with something as dangerous as lipos.

Did somebody say cell phones ? :w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t:
3 minutes is pathetic for a runtime - 1 hour with petrol.
Anyway, both have their uses.

'When I were a lad' we had electric milk floats - Pb/acid batteries or not, they could last quite a long time - point being, it's all in the design.

Here is a new protype from Redcat. A new lightweight Rampage XT fitted with a brushless conversion:

Thanks for the heads up! The only lipos I have are small thunder power 1320mah for my crawler. I've been told it's good to keep them in a ammo case for storage.

I may try the lifo batteries. My friend has a handle on lots from the power tool sector.

We're still looking at a 1/5 'truck' and asking runtime.
We need perhaps 2 x 6S 12Ah batteries for at least 15-120 minutes, which isn't even CLOSE to 1 hour petrol, with 700mL - which, relatively speaking is 'dirt cheap'. Raison d'etre.
