one of the uprights on the hubs broke under the initial brake load, then all the brake loads loads got transfered to the other and oveloaded that, and it went twang in a big way. I love the way ve tried to steer it out of the wall regardless, then again, so would I (whilst crapping myself)

that's the problem with carbon as a structural component, it either works or it don't. metal and plastic tend to flex or deform as things go wrong so you stand a chance.
