I got a deal on an fg chassis off ebay... well I kept looking, bought a dif, alloy servo saver and have enough fg stuff to build another chassis up so I decided since I have an mt, I am going to build a marder beetle... I have an almost new set of tires and wheels as well, and the dogbones, outdrives and axles from my semi (changed that to ball drives)... also got a bunch of misc items.

I cheaped out and found sellers with a ton of stuff ebay uk and bid minimum on everything to see what I'd win and scored a lot of cheap parts

I also picked up a near new 26cc cy for it for $60. he stripped a part in the carb so I need to order

this gives me 2 fg's and 2 clones in the garage. 3 have front brake kits. and I have another 535mm fg chassis and most of the parts to build my brushless semi.

Brushless semi would be nice....I will have to think about that.....I should have
enough parts to build one..less the cab ..esp contoller & motor...Opps special on road
wheels & tires....forgot that....I am sure I have forgot other items as well...
Sounds all good my friend...winter project....Slawhammer

I got the mill from the young fella I run with. Well he's 25... it was a back up motor for him but he got an oneill's ported kit. had it for sale locally for a long time and no bites. I bought his other on road car with fh mt arms on it to help out. Long story... I really didn't want the car LOL...

I bought all the on road arms and such to make it on road so it'll sell, and I had all the offroad spares allready, so I got an fg chassis to put the parts on... problem is me an ebay... once I start looking and clicking I have a hard time stopping LOL

Roger reminded me about ebay uk. ebay.ca doesn't even show uk listings even if search is worldwide?? the thing I can't seem to find is fg side plates... the price they are selling for is almost new price... every set I have seen.

anyway. not sure yet what I want to make of it. I'll just build the chassis and decide later. I want it to be 4wd eventually, just haven't fully decided on the body. Today's thought was to make a 4wd Touraeg but put on road tires like the semi on. semi rims are the same as the buggies but the rears have extensions to be wider

just realized I'd need to get shorter arms for the road versions grrr.

pipeous,
a semi sounds like a cool project!!!!
I love to hear about people getting great prices off the bay.....

Can't wait to c pictures

Considering it's going to be a Marder Beetle now, I have started the production. Most of the front end has been put on. aluminum bulks, alloy front brakes. I am still waiting for parts to arrive so could only go so far. One order has been 4 weeks now, and am waiting for the seller to send me a tracking number. My dif is in that shipment. Awaiting this from another seller for the front.

I had a couple fg tanks but no stopper, so I cut up a sink drain plug and used an aquarium air stone as a clunk (2 for $1.19 at the fish store). Now I have to find that big roll of fuel tubing I had... searching all over. where did I stuff it... or did I lend it to Rich to redo his Baja?

The undertray and wing were shipped today from Advance Hobbies in Ontario. I use them a lot. They have most things I need in stock and it arrives in a few days. I might pay a little more but they know their stuff and get me things fast.

The XTM shocks arrived. they are a tad longer (couple mm) than long fg shocks, and the springs are comparable in tension to the FG shocks. I her they might leak, so I am going to use them in the on road platform I am building. Going to use FG MT arms and tower for that as it fits under a semi body and I can toss 8 shocks on to be different. Besides, I have most of the stuff now.

This bug is getting Firehammer MT arms for now. I just have so many sets of them I hate to waste them. The wheels will stick out a bit further but I think it'll be fine. I can change to FG when I do the 4wd conversion in a paycheque or 2...

not much more. rear bulks and arms are installed, rear uprights, axles etc out to the wheels... I need to get a couple rear shock towers now though, and some rear bulkheads. then I will have enough to finish the project...

tonight it's ufc time and going to fix my broken dremmels. I might get the semi 2 speed fixed then.

Barry,

I one of those carbon fiber fronts on my FG comp and it looks killer.. Everybody wonders how they bent the carbon fiber like that...LOL...

About the fuel line.. I lose that stuff all the time and it sucks.. All i needed was a 5 inch piece so i went all the way to the hobby shop, when i got back home, i found 12 inches in the drawer...LMAO

Chris

Home depot, in the dishwashing section... much cheaper ;)

well 2 broken dremmels made 1 working dremmel anyway. I cut the bolts off I mounted the rear arms with as they were too long. if you put the nut on first before you cut, the threads come out cleaner. not really worth taking a pic of a bare chassis...

well time to fix that semi 2 speed finally. I'd strip that chassis but this 4 week wait is killing me

nothing arrived today, but I sold the cheap am radio from my 1/7. best part is I booked him in for a detail job for sunday had to book sunday night shift off as I have a big black dually 4x4 to detail monday morning, and that beast takes me 10 hrs...

one seller isn't replying to me. he was supposed to give me a tracking number monday... I wrote again wednesday when he never replied... here we are Friday and nada... he has a high ebay reputation, so not worried he sent the stuff. I would just like to know where in the system it is sitting

the carbon brace alloy tower arrived today. must be for something else cuz the mounting holes don't line up. if I use the 4 mounting holes, the steering post sits back too far. there are 2 holes further back that line up but I will have to drill 2 new holes for the front and clean it up. the original proper holes are in rough shape anyway.

I have a pair of fg mt front arms I was playing with as well. bored so swapping these parts around to see what works with what.... fg mt arms foul on the on road bulkheads. I could probably trim some off to solve that.

The I have 3 different types of front brake kits and 2 of them foul on the arms, so I will have to pull apart my semi brakes and steal the longer arm (where cable goes in) to mount on the mt arms... sure a lot of swapping to get them to work together

I cut and drilled that carbon part and fits nicely. I also trimmed the on road fr bulks and fit the mt arms and 4 of those xtm shocks... I am going to toss the mt arms on my semi as they have the mt brakes setup. Kinda want to test it out and see how it handles that way anyway.

the mt tower setup won't fit inside the undertray, unless I carved the wheelwells. so my plan of attack is laid out and I have a couple hours to swap some parts around before a detailing job arrives (getting rc crap for an interior clean of a truck, tomorrow I get a heli for polishing a camaro lol. he took 1st in a stereo comp for db's but the paint looks like crap and he got razzed)

I'll take some pics once I swap parts around. at least the mt tower fits inside the semi body so should be fine. I'll just have to get some bling parts to finish that front end later. I have 2 mt towers though, or st, same deal

I also got my old alpha body back, so my brushless might just be a car now instead until I can buy another body.

I ordered in parma faskrome for my water drop paintjob on the vw from sickboy. I'll have the paint before the vw arrives so I can get some practice. need to setup a heatlamp area in here somewhere... I'll do a how to video and show it. I think chrome water drops on black should look sick. well back to work

Here's another musing and observation. the cabon part above would have fit the on road a and b bulkheads. they have the same distance between them as the firhammer mt oddly enough. the off road chassis has the bulkheads a few mm closer together. I still had to cut the bad holes out of the carbon part so it worked out, but the mt top plate I had won't fit the onroad bulkheads being too short. I grabbed this carbon piece I had cut for a firehammer setup with the mt tower, and it fit. I just had to drill the tower mount holes slightly forward... oh well it's fun to learn. been a long time since I assembled the semi so I wasn't sure until now. I am sure learning about cross platform parts compatibility though

Here's a couple pics of things as they sit. I can get my motor ready but that's about it until more stuff arrives.. the last 2 pics are the front end for project 3

I love it. something arrives for my semi from the post, then not even 2 mins later the doorbell rings again. I hadn't even gotten the pipe out of the packaging. so now my servo tray, carbon rear shock tower and a dif riser for the brushless projet arrived today. I thought the carbon tower part was just additional bracing but it is super thick so I will be trying it out on it's own to see how it fits. so far all is well.... it's 5mm thick

my dif, well it's in a package I paid for 5 weeks ago today. along with my chassis for the semi, my alloy servo saver for this one etc. 5 items. dude won't give me a tracking number or even respond now. as of tonight I will escalate it to a paypal claim.

Looks good the top plate & shock tower....you be a head of me now for the build...
I will shortly...it will look killer when done my friend...Slaw

Pipeous, I got that same carbon shock tower for my on-road.. That thing looks killer and soo thick.
Everyone keeps asking me how i was able to bend the carbon fiber like that..LOL I tell them Magic!!! ;)
