Hi All,
Need some advice here..Got a Fg MT with oneil 29 ..Keeps burning out plugs .Im using NGK CMR7H which is correct and even blew an iridium ngk..What am I doing wrong ..Got the H needle at 1.5 and the L at 1.25.
Am running a jetpro silenced pipe and still cant get it to wheelie..it just blows the tires away..even tried a Samba big belly to change the power curve ... no good and a set of soft compound Fg tyres..still no wheelie..Have also tried a DDM 8000 rpm clutch spring and that made it even worse..Wot to do:helpsmilie:.. Am I running to much power here and how do I get it to bite and lift the front wheels???:helpsmilie:

Hi,
Thanks for getting back..am using rockoil fully synthetic..lot less smoke than good old out board oil.. learnt that was the wrong way to go after the motor was run in..Any other ideas??

wesslp,
Just wondering how many minutes approx you run before you burn the plug? Also, are you doing WOT runs or are you taking it easy.
Lastly, how new or old is the motor?

Chris

just been doin short full throttle runs tryin to get the truck to wheelie and also trying different L mixture settings..maybe i have leaned it out to much but the plugs are coming out wet ..so no damge I'd say..they only seem to last a few tanks..will try getting out today and give it a real blast over a longer distance..
motor has had about seven tanks through it now..
those plugs are hard to find ..its either Ebay or the local garden machinery shop!
looks like I might have the only FG that wont ever wheelie.. I think its just got too much power :omg:

Hey Wess, I have a FG MT with a fully ported ESP GP290 and a Dom Pipe and the Walbro 813 carb. I think this set up is pushing 6hp and I wont ever get a wheelie on the pavement. These tires just do not hook up. Every so often they may hook up on the grass and flip the truck over. Try putting as much weight in the back of the truck like the battery pack etc.. this may help a little. You can never have too much power so check your gears. stock is 16/48 but for me its just too much torque and wheel spin off the line. I'm going up to 18/46 or 20/44 for less wheel spin and maybe the tires will hook up. I hope this helps.

Oh yeah, order a Walbro 813 carb for faster response off the line.. It does not have a choke, but a few pulls and it starts every time. This is a must upgrade. My 30.5cc has so much more punch with the 813.

Hi Hills..thanks for getting back...Looks like me and you are in the same club..talking of traction i found some new Fg soft compound tires on the Bay shop ..fairly new out from Fg..really soft compound..with foam inserts etc not the rag lining like the stockers..just like nitro stuff really but bigger..so off came the hard compound tires and i glued the suckers on ..spent a whole day boiling the old ones off ..cleaned up and glued the new inserts and tires on as per the in structions thinking this is it ..wheelie time..guess wot..NO WHEELIE!!! and it even started to roll the tread offf the tires ( same tractor tread pattern)..so don't bother buying them..thats a tip from me for whats its worth..guess you are right ..just too much torgue..could try some slicks but it will probably flip as you say despite the wheelie bar i have on the back!
Guess I will check out the carb..me seems to think it is a Walbro.. and then buy a bag of cement..and put that in the back..bet it will still fly!!:w00t:
Am running 16/48 and have tried 18/46 and made no difference..never thought about a lower ratio..good idea ..let me know if it works
P.s how many different sorts of
walbro are there? and have you tried stiffening up the rear shocks with extra spacers??
regards,
Stuart,,

wespl00,

You might be running your engine a little too rich.
What kind of motor do you have. If its an ESP ported, you have to run it per his instructions in order for it to work properly.

Hi Chris,
Its an oneil 29 cc..been running on stock settings H 1.5 and L 1.25 but the motor runs crisper when its a little leaner..think iive been leaning it to much..could that over heat the plug and burn it out??

Hey Wess, I run 20:1 Ams Oil Sabre that has a nice cool blue. Never hurts to run it thick. It will keep the motor cooler. Buy a digital temp gage and try not to run over 180-200f degrees. If you do get that hot during your run you will need to shut it down and let it cool off. Make sure grass is not packed in the motor either.

As far as the plugs, if they are black and fouled you are not tuned properly. Lean it out a bit. Do a couple high speed passes and shut it off and pull your plug while its hot to see your color. Carmel brown is ideal.

As far as the tires, these are off road trucks and not wheelie kings like the baja's. I don't think they are really built to hook up like that. I have 2 battery packs and 4 servos up front that keeps me weighed down. I can run a whole gallon or better before I have to recharge my packs.

I can't imagine your carb settings are the issue with your plugs? I have gone through one plug in all the years of use and it was because my buggy landed on top and crushed it. Really there are only a few ways that a plug will go bad. If it cracks internally, externally or burns out from years of use.
If your plugs get coated just wire brush them clean. I've run 25:1 amsoil saber pro for years with the same plugs with no problems.

The FGMT tires M or H are hard which is a good thing because they last FOREVER! I cannot wheelie much either and I'm running a stock G260. I get wheel spin until you get the tires heated up and they stick. Hotter the tire the more they will bite the pavement. Or you can get a pipe that hits mid power and wheelie on the move.

Good luck, it will happen eventually.:omg:

Just a thought,
could the problem be elsewhere, maybe you have a leak somewhere and you coincidentally change your plugs. Double check your seals and make sure all the screws are nice and snug in place. Mine was giving me grief and it was my head gasket that was literally blown off..
Also, You said earlier that your plug was wet, that is usually a sign of the engine flooding, but that happens when you try to start it. If this is the case, don't throw out the plug, just let it dry out..

Chris

Thanks for all the help guys..think maybe/also that samba big belly is giving too much punch low down and making things worse so will go back to the jetpro for higher end punch and see what gives..still thinking about the bag of cement for the truck bed tho!!:clap:
