My car has developed a weird electrical problem. Its nothing major - just annoying. The speakers went dead all of a sudden but the display was still lit and correct and everything else on the set still works. After a couple of days of f'in at it with no joy I pressed the button for the electric window on the drivers side and the speakers started working again! If I have the window fully closed the speakers go off - tap the button to drop it a fraction and they work again! Its getting worse tho and Im having to play around with the window more now to get it to stay on. Im thinking this is an earth fault on the speaker or window motor in the drivers door. What do you think? Are there any auto electricians on here that could offer advice? Its a 56 plate Astra and I do 30k a yr so its fookin annoying  I know basic electrics & have a meter but don't want to start ripping the car to pieces only to find I am looking in the wrong place!

I would replace the speaker wire. Its sounds to me like the wire is chaffed and when the window moves up or down its rubbing on the wire. Check all the wiring where it comes out of the car and into the door as well. If the speaker wire is grounding out on the inside of the door it can affect all of the speakers. Should be a super easy fix. Just pull the speak out and run new wire from where it goes through the car body and through the door.

also check the plug between the body and door for corrosion mate or as above check the wiring inside the door, if you have no joy mate pop over and i'll have a look for ya :D

Cheers! I will take the door card off I think & have a proper look at it. I have some 2 core cable that I used for my surround system in the house rather than the crappy std wires that came with it so will use some of that to fix it up. Fingers crossed it will be obvious where the fault is!

Andy,I had a similar problem in the bathroom. I flushed the bog and the shower would start to work? Then when I went and used the microwave downstairs the doorbell would quack like a dog:rolleyes:
Gotta keep off the drugs mate!:lol::w00t:
