OK! I fired up the beast today and found that it has no tune. What I mean is that there is no difference in rev when I move the LS/HS ,bogs out with little throttle and has a intermittent high revs.and the idle screw makes little difference. This is the stock carb so don't giggle its been a trooper!! over 5 gallons of fuel in 7 months . I have a hunch on the problem but I would like others opinion Thanks All

Time for you to get to gizmomotors and pick up a walbro 990... believe me, you will not look back :D

When I take the carb off, I go ahead and change out the manifold, intake, and filter too... I don't want to take that crap apart twice... ha ha ha

aside from the throttle shaft-carb body - the most wear prone area of the type of carbs we use is the needle valve- seat. This applies to Walbro-Hy branded carbs- Mikuni, Keihn,-sukeyakie -whatever the make. Its a good idea to remove the large single bolt on the bottom of the carbs we use-pull it apart- be certan to keep the gasket and fuel pump diaphram in correct order.- In the fuel inlet on the carb body under the fuel pump assembly - there is a very fine mesh fuel inlet screen- it can be removed and cleaned on ocassion if you are careful. not saying this is the problem with your carb- just an uneducated alfred guess-- lol.

This is why I can't say a bad thing about redcat! I have had small things like hub bearings and a throttle servo and crappy foams but thats cheese wiz compared to the amount of run time I have enjoyed. I will rip the old carb apart for fun to see if thats the problem. 990 will get ordered without a doubt.

Thanks for the tips alfred

Rebuilt a carb not too long ago. Here's what the screen looks like...

Black Friday is next week. Might be worth waiting until then. I know DDM has some great specials.

This is a great thread. I am also interested in replacing my carb. I found that 990 on the gizmomotors site. It's out of stock right now, but I'll keep my eye on it.

The description reads that it does not have an internal choke? What does this mean? My current stock engine has a lever for the choke. Flips up and down.

Is this an easy replacement for the stock carb on the XT? I know how to remove the current one, but does the new one fit on w/o hiccups? Just install it and tune?

What else (while I'm at it) do you recommend I replace to get the engine running smooth. Mine isn't that old. May have about 1.5 gallons through it.

I received a bum stock carb. The settings are all screwed up. Even tech support indicated they see ones like mine once in a while, but that they still work if you tinker with them. I'm done with it now.
