Folks,
I am hoping to get a little pocket money from some consultancy work and I have been looking at the pricing for the Mamba XL2 / 2028 combo.
The problem is the price differential for buying in the UK vs US.
Castle's UK distrinutor is Logic RC. I just spoke to their product specialist and there is no combo available in the UK for XL2 with 2028. The UK price for these 2 is 635GBP.
Now in the US, the same XL2 + 2028 can be had for 342GBP. Add it 35GBP for shipping and 20% for the Tax man and it still comes to 452GBP, which is a whopping 30% cheaper than in the U.K. Get a friend in the US to order it for you and send as a *gift* and the price differential is even higher.
I spoke to the Guy at Logic RC. They not not Castle Warranty Dealers, but would honour a warrantiable failure in the frist 12 months with a direct replacement from their own stock. Now that sounds pretty good compared to sending a fried speedo all the way back to Kansas.
BUT
I have had Sidewinder, Mamba Max, 3 Mamba Monsters and never had a problem with any of them ever. As soon as I get a Castle speedo, I set all the punch levels to soft, and everything for a nice gentle power output curve. I figure this helps the speedo and the drivetrain. Also the customer support from Castle themselves is just legendary.
Is it worth paying the price differential to get a 12 month UK warranty for something that, barring me being really stupid or using rubbish lipos, is unlikely to cause a problem. I would probably get the KD conversion kit and run mechanical brakes, so this will stress the motor even less.
What do you reckon?
