I locked the center differential on my Nutech TBIII and did the playdough method. I was still getting more power to the front wheels. I re~ packed the center diff and waited till it turned to a rock before I reassembled it. Still, front tires turn into pie cutters??? I tore the rear end apart but it's all fine. Is it possible that since the front end is so light that the tires can do that and it just seems there's more power to the front?

Since this post, I figured it out. It seems that when I inspected the rear diff for damage, I overlooked the bearing behind the pinion. While out running yesterday, the rear end went completely. When I tore the rear apart, the gears did not look terribly bad and thats when I noticed the slop in the pinion. The inside bearing went south causing the pinion to move up and down. Must have been happening for a while.

Ah, that would explain that then!

Out of interest, do the grubscrews in your centre outdrive screw down onto flats on the shaft or into holes like the TB2?
And is there much front to back movement in the centre drive shafts when assembled?

Steve.

The grub screws screw onto a flat on the shafts not holes although I thought of not drilling holes but a little recess for the grub screws to sit in. There is very little to no movement in the center driveshafts. It just had to be a bad inner bearing from the get go. I have a new set coming from Boca!

out of curiosity, did the play dough trick work ok to lock ya diff up?

i have an FG with an upgraded diff, but it still feels loose even though ive thrown some heavy diff grease in it, im gunna keep my eyes open for an SLD but until then just wondering best way to make my current diff nice & stiff?

cheers

The Playdough trick works very well. I couldn't see spending the cash when my 5yo daughter has playdough everywhere!!! Plus from what I've seen, if you ever want to remove it, you could!
