The actual center "diff" gear that powers the front and rear diff's.

Is there a real diff that would fit instaed of the direct drive gear?

...Could a rear/front diff with planet gears be mounted in the center?

I know some nitro and the Losi 5ive have it.

My revo tranny can have a direct drive or a center diff.

Altho they seem to favor front power more...just wondering?

Not yet,

If you cut a square hole in the spur you could. With a way to mount it.

Some losi owners are switching to locked diffs for the center diff. At least the diff looks like its a straight gear holder now. Its lighter so it might move a little faster off the line. I have not seen too any videos, looks like it makes the losi drift more than what I would describe the handing now as floating. Meaning its very easy.

In the very few times Iv drove on road the difference with a center diff is noticeable if you slam the throttle. Off road it's not a as important, to me at least. On a real right track no center diff works pretty well as I can kinda drift around some corners my losi needs to Slow down and "drive" around.

As far as off road 1/5 scales readily available I think the mcd, hurrax ,and nutech have center diffs and the flux sc if you count that, not including clones. The mcd buggies win a lot of races. They also break a decent amount according to some other forums. We should see a diff mount from 7075rc eventually. It will increase breakage of the drive train but make the car handle a little easier. If you want your car to be more forgiving maybe use the lowest mounting hole for your front shocks it take a few mins but you should see a difference.

I think my next build will be a xbe that I add 1.5'' to the frame and add a center diff. I just bought another Desert Rat T5 body and need to do a race style truck that will kick Losi a$$. I may even make it a kit that you buy so that others can have that same joy!

ihave a car with a center differental. the diff has 500,000 weight silicone in it.this allows the car to turn under power. the car is more forgiving - less prone to launching sideways. the redcat xb will launch harder. i usually run grp bulldog narrows on all fours, the car almost has too much traction, as the tires wear i rotate them- put the tires with the most rounded off knobs on the rear, this lets the xb-s ass end kick out more- steer tru the corners better- a good project for the grp- or most other brands of wheels-tires would be to cut -bond a cone inside the rims- have a few little holes to drain out the water- this would be like putting a bigger engine in the car- less rotating mass, heck, the weight of these doubles as they fill with mud-grass- even had fricking dog turds rolling around in the rims- gag me-lol. - yea, in europe they have magnetic diffs- adjustable by turning a knob, not shure how much they weigh. fancy parts make a car heavy real quick. objects in motion tend to stay in motion.

Make you think about running 40 series wheels and tires! Much lighter and lots of different tred patterns. Cost is much better as well.
