centering the dog bones???

I am not sure what yo guys mean when you say center the drive shafts/dog bones with fuel tubing or a foam ear plug. With the CVD's on the front of my MT there is no play in the shafts. The back is a totally different story, there was about 1/4 inch that the drive shafts could move. To take up the slop I had some springs the same diameter of the inside of the cubs and a little over 1/4 long. I used on at each end of both rear drive shafts and no more slop. The good thing is if the shafts need to move they can as the springs compress. Was that what you folks meant?
 
Yep, if they are allowed to slop around they'll end up binding, I was going to use the elcon ball drive conical springs but found the earplug less messing around...just poke it in and it stays there and they compress and expand..
 
Thanks guys. I couldn't believe the amount of slop there was before I installed the springs. My vext add on is going to be a set of axle boots to keep the grit out. Figure I check out DDM and order 8 yello ones to match the rest of the truck.
 
Update!


Took the Ramp down to the slate dumps today to give it a beating. My dad wanted to go and watch (63 and he still gets a huge kick out of these). I am happy to say that even after some nasty landings nothing major broke. I did snap the front body mount but already fixed it with some stuff I had laying around. I also (this is the first time ever in over 20years of rc's) snapped the threaded shaft off of one the balls the tie rods attach to the bell crank with. No probs with the "tempered" diff cups. I took them to a medium blue, hopefully that isn't too soft. So far so good!
