Ok Ive searched the forum and haven't heard a issue quite like this so here I go..

I recently purchased a CAT5 steel spur because my plastic spur was done. Im runnin the 16/48 combo. Before the steel gear the truck ran fine besides the chipped plastic spur. Now after a few seconds of runnin the truck runs poorly as if the clutches are slipping. It takes off very slow and bogs from time to time but doesn't cut off. Ive checked the driveline for loose grub screws etc... but haven't found anything. I really didnt want to pull the clutchbell but if I need to I will let me know what you guys think

first thing take the spur off and turn the layshaft by hand, make sure rear wheels are off the ground, if it turns freely and spins the rear time to take the clutch bell off.

u running RWD or 4WD?

Any chance the motor has moved?
Is there a slight space in the meshing of the pinion and spur or are they tight?
How's the meshing of the diff on the layshaft - shouldn't be too tight either?
Should be able to spin the clutch bell if the clutch isn't binding on the bell.
Check the motor mount screws are tight once you're certain the alignment's OK.
Good luck. Hopefully it's an easy fix.

Sperera Truck is RWD. Its two speed so do I take both spurs off to test the layshaft?

Atom3624 All the meshing seems pretty good and the clutchbell spins freely. Motor doesn't seem to have moved.

to test layshaft take of either the spur or pinion gears, so they are not meshing, if it spins freely time to take off the clutch bell.

has anyone played with the needles?

Ok guys I may have found the culprit. Upon teardown here is what I found

Those clutch shoes may have something to do with it:blush:

LOL yes I think the shoes are fooked.

and your engine is heading that way too unless you get some of that grass outta there! wow looks chokas! big chance of overheating running like that mate.

if you can do your pullstart and crankcase mod, stop that from happened forever!

crankcase mod shown below.

https://www.largescaleforums.com/showthread.php?t=5376

pullstart mod is same thing but covering the pullstart with breathable materieal, alternativly you can buy an outwears for it which will do the same thing.

i will say there is no point doing the pullstart and not the crankcase.

it could save your engine and you wont spend time removing the cowl getting the grass out of there ever again!

I never would have imagined that much grass was under that cowl. I will post a pic for those who may not know about this. Sperera you have the eye of the tiger! LOL

I notice part of the lower shoe is blue - did you have one of those painted ones (Ebay UK !!)?
Defo clean it out.
I defer to others regarding the clutch bell - I would but I'm quite new to this as well.

it'll just be a powdery duust, air compressor would do it but if you want it spotless use a bit of degreaser or the likes and hose it off, i wouldnt worry personally as you first run its going to get covered in clutch dust anyway.

What motor do you have. CY or Zenoah? You will want to make sure you get the clutch for the CY or the clutch for the Zen. If you want to swap them you need different bolts to hold the shoes in place.
To clean out the crap from the motor a good brake cleaner will clean it all out and instantly dry. You can also spray off the crap on the outside of the carb. Some brake cleaners will leave a white film on plastic so avoid the plastic unless you know it will not affect it.
Sanding the inside of the bell is not a bad idea. I do it when I tear down as well. You will clean off any of the rust or build up and it will smooth out soon enough with use.
You may have had a bad clutch and was only running one side or half and half. Its not real common but happens.
If you use one of the painted clutches off ebay I would recommend cleaning off the paint with carb cleaner or brake cleaner so as not to contaminate the clutch area with what ever they used to paint it with.:glare:
