Was out bashing last night when my baja crawled to a halt and cut off. Pushing it along I could hear grinding from inside the clutch bell, so today I whipped it off to find the clutch shoe holder had sheared! Must be pretty rubbish metal :confused:

I cant get it off the threaded part either so far, soaked it in wd40 but still doesn't want to move. It should just slide off once nut is removed yes ?

Yikes! Do you have a piston stopper? If so put that in place (at least I think you need that, I can't recall, someone will chime in I'm sure) to get the nut off. I have never encountered one that has just slid off so I always use a hefty screw driver or something to pry it off. Hopefully someone has a better way, if they do, I'd love to know about it.
 
use a flywheel puller to get the part off once teh nut is removed, since it is damaged anyway a sure fire way it to take a dremel to it being cautious not to damage the crankshaft. if the nut is the problem again a dremel will work as will a nut breaker (assuming you can find a nutbreaker that will fit in that tight of a space)
 
Definitely get a piston stopper - or a lot of good quality string - see other threads (no pun intended!!).
Next remove the centre nut.
NORMALLY you will find an over-long pair of screws and systematicall screw in either side to force that carrier off - it won't come off easily, or shouldn't!!
I think you'll need some WD40 an a few taps to dry and loosen it a bit, then screw in the one side you can until just too far, than try levering, without damaging the other to compensate ....

Nice to see its really rare and Ive been unlucky lol. I guess it must have been a flaw from the manufacture.

I just used a length of washing line to act as a piston stopper.
 
Got it off :)

I screwed a bolt through which pushed against the back of the clutch housing to pop it off. Quick replacement this week and I'll be back out bashing asap

It does appear to be unusual - I've been on here a couple of years and have never come across it before.
When you remount with the new one, it SHOULD be OK, but check the clutch alignment - nothing was bent in the gruesome attack!!

Ive got an HPI SS clutch and spring sitting ready to go in so Im just going to go with that. To be honest this is the first problem Ive had with the clutch in about 10 months of ownership so its not really a problem area for me. Touch wood! lol

That looks strange to me usually KM clutch holders are held on with a countersunk screw not a nut!.I would change the crankshaft so the holder is held on with a screw instead of a nut.This would save any future problems.give me a call at rcmodelz and i can sort you out with a crankshaft.
