OK Rocky Mountain guys and gals, we have set a date for a gathering at the North Sand Hills (North Sand Dunes) outside Walden, CO (and close to Laramie, WY). The date is Sept. 17-19, 2010.

It is free to camp (tent or RV) and if you're going to take your OHV (ATV, bike, rail) you only need a CO OHV sticker.

If you don't want to camp, the town of Walden is 15 miles away and has a couple of hotels:

Walden Antlers Inn. (No pets allowed)

North Park Inn & Suites. (Pets allowed for an additional $10)

So who else is going to go?

The best I've got for pics of the place is here -> North Sand Hills. There are also good mountain trails around the area so you're not just limited to sand if you feel like venturing into something else.

Post up!!!

Hola. I know there's a few other local Baja guys, but there's one big 1/8th race out in Burlington that same weekend and I'm pretty sure that's an understandable priority (winding up the season). Glad I'll be out of the country! Hopefully a big group will find a way to get together soon

Howdy, Chris!

Understandable priority? 1/8 scale? I suppose so. The 1/8 scale guys are pretty serious about their racing. No worries...other than missing having you there, Jake, I suppose it's pretty cool that we'll have all of that space to ourselves :D

Yeah, there's a pretty great 1/8 following around here! Hopefully we'll hear from a couple of those guys soon, pretty good crew from what I've seen. I think what has been happening with this little crowd so far is awesome, good to get a group of these monsters out and about! You guys will definitely have to fill me in after the Walden trip.

Seems to me that good upgrades for the sand trip would be paddles and enclosed clutch covers, anybody think of anything else to make it more enjoyable?

I had some interaction with the 1/8 guys a couple of years ago when the track in Auroa (I think it's Watkins) was just getting going. Got some help from a few of them when I was trying to run 1/10 nitro (have since abandoned nitro again for the third time). So yeah...mostly a good group of really nice guys.

Of course you have to go with Outerwears for the air filter and pullstart. Most recommend a TGN Redneck and greasing the blue stock filter where it meets the motor (will catch the sand).

Two other things I'm doing are a) bicycle innertube for shock socks to keep the sand away from the shock shafts and b) shoe goo on the bottom of the coil so it doesn't get sandblasted and expose the contacts (just found that one yesterday).

Hey! I love my rc8

But, I think Ive run it once since getting the baja.....

Apparently the bicycle inner tube thing does change the compression rates of the shocks slightly, so Im debating whether to wait until walden to do it. Does 26x1.25-1.75 sound right?

I wasn't bashing 1/8 scale...just nitro in general  Of course my problems with it could be due to my inability to tune the friggin things.

Hmmm...I didn't think about the tube changing the compression settings. I have a spare set of Bad Horsie covers I'll bring to Walden as well just in case the tube thing makes it drive all wonky. I wouldn't run the tubes except in sand as I don't think it would be necessary. Yes, that size sounds right to me.

Lol, I get it, believe me. The gas engines are waaaay easier to deal with.

Seems like about every other time you run nitro there's a problem of some sort with the tune etc.

Hadn't touched my bajas needles until yesterday

Damn 5B is killing me. I think karma is kicking my butt because of my comments about nitro  Assuming I get it tuned and running right, I'm going to have to go back and re-sandproof the friggin thing before Walden because I ganked my mods trying to rule out stupid things.

I suppose you're right about that. Now I just have to remember them all :D

YAY!!! Just saw that the FedEx man will be delivering my new rear wheels today so I have something on which to mount my RC4WD paddles when I get them from Josh (please oh please show up on Saturday, Josh).

lol, I think I'll be buying those same paddles from him most likely.

Need to get me a set of stock wheels either from him or DDM to mount them on as well.

We likely have another guy going to Walden with us. He's a good buddy I met through forums who lives in Broomfield. He built what he calls, The MUTT. It's a 1/5 scale electric he built himself by merging Slash and Baja parts.
