Well I decided to take apart my stock throttle servo on my XT!! I was kinda shocked on what I saw!! It had steel gears!! I thought the stock Servos were plastic gears? and that was the main reason why we change them.

cat servos

Now you see why i am always asking people to ship there unwanted servos to me- and i would gladly refund there postage. I ran an XB for 1 year on the stockers- just lost the control wire connection on the p-c board- resoldered, cleaned the gears-re-greased- works perfectly. yea, 1st gear on the 5755s are not metal- lame. I run a direct servo harness on cars- this helps. I installed a 645 on the cat- i cannot see one nickels diff in speed or power compaired to the cat throttle servo. I do have 2 new hs 5755 mg-s - they should be an improvement for the steering--

Yes the factory uses a low melting point solder and that causes the problems. If you resolder them with 63/37 solder, the servo will last a long time.

The green people now require lots of electronic stuff to be rohs compliant. this means that the solder is lead free- its very rough on componets=parts because it flows @ quite a bit higher temp- I never use the run of the mill lead free solder. I use the good stuff- Cardas solder- gold-silver not recycled julers junk either- This makes for a huge improvement to the quality of resolution -detail on hand built stereo componets- a real pleasure to flow this stuff! - just saying--

yes, i agree about the lo-melting point solder- if its not quite up to standard- and the heat on the wave bath is too low--- cold joints.

The main reason we change them is because they lock up at full throttle. It's not fun watching your $700+ investment plow into a tree, or worse, another person.

Thats a very good reason to replace! I had no idea. Unshure if this is a factor on the T servo on my cat- From day one- i set the end point adjustment- re-did the links- carb and brake- dampened with lite springs-both ends of travel on the throttel side- I do reset the brake spring so on the slickest surface on any given day- the brakes do not lock up-

well it really sux that a took it apart cuz i cant put it back together since i only need to re-solder 63/37!!!!! i can solder that in a heart beat!! but the gears are all over the place!! lol but does any body know if jrsport st47 any good?? cuz thats what i put on for the moment!!

gear set

just clear your thoughts- kick back and do it by trial and error. they will only go together 1 way- assembled in correct order. do not force anything. if you have problems- let me know- i will post a close up photo of an assembled set o gears.

The ST47 has plastic gears. Might be a good throttle servo for a nitro, but not a 5th scale.
