hello i ran into a couple of weird problems today first of all i have the rampage xt and today it was running fine then it dies at idle after 5 mins, so i thought ok no big deal must have over heated. i let it cool down restarted it but now everytime i let off the brakes the engine revs and gets stuck at half throttle after 15 secs or so at the stuck position it will slowly release back to normal. until i hit the brakes again, if i tap the gas it will be fine.

For my second problem i was driving around like normal brought it in to tune it and noticed my steering servo was making a terrible grinding noise and would stop even with the steering wheel at center.

i also couldnt turn off the engine with the stop button but i think this might have something to do with the first problem.

anyone else run into these problems?

another thing is if i let the car sit for awhile it will stop doing the grinding noise and drive normal like nothing was ever wrong

I'm On The Same Boat As You Are, My Xt Just Keeps Breaking Down. I'm Interested To Hear What The Experienced Guys Have To Say

It's sounds like you might be having a carburetor issue. I've noticed that stock carb is a lil rough about keeping tune, some work some don't. Worse case scenario order a walbro 668 and it should end your issue.

IS THAT CONSIDERED AN UPGRADE FROM WHAT THE XT COMES OR JUST A REPLACEMENT WITH QUALITY. Or is therea carb better for the xt since I'm upgrading it. Thanks

alright so i did some diagnosis work and found out that the brake/idle problem was due to a seized throttle linkage, the black clamp that grabs the throttle linkage next to the spring kept getting stuck therefore everytime the brakes were released the throttle would be open automatically weird problem but was fixed by loosening the clamp a half turn. as for the servo issue the only thing i can think of is that the plastic gears must swell up when it gets hot because i took it apart and the gear teeth all look great. If i let it sit it will be fine. so the only real fix would be get a metal gear servo or just take a break every 30 mins or so

Buying a new carb to try and troubleshoot a current issue, on a new vehicle???

I am also having issues with the Redcat Rampage XB, wont stay running idle up and down, bogs at light acceleration. Less then 1 tank through it.

Tune your carb like described in the link and it should rip.

I had the same issue with the throttle linkage. I took and drilled out the black clamp you described so there would be no binding at all.

From what I have read the stock servos are not the greatest. I broke mine about the 3rd time running. I was able to get it to work again but am replacing it with one I bought off ebay for $45. I have it but haven't installed it yet.

Ive have already put needles to stock settings as per DDM settings. Did the fuel cap vent mod, even replaced the spark plug. Still wont run right

After having engine issues with the Rampage XB.

I purchased a new Hpi 5t and it has 3 tanks through it and haven't had one tuning issue.

But would like to get my $560.00 Redcat buggy to run for more then 5 mins

How is Redcat's customer service? I am not a newbie to gas Rc's but not an expert either.

Thank you

Either HPI MCD or Redcat and others all of them will break sooner or later . But one thing is sure more experience less problems and damage. I`m 5Y in the gas rc hobby and i think XB XT are good entry platforms nicely priced compared to competition . My 5B already ate 4 thousand dollars and still will break. I`m happy with the XB 3g thru it now [ame]

I know this not related to your problem right now, or is it? Anyway, We have an XT and XB and they both stopped running just after our first few tanks of gas. We could not figure out what's wrong with them. then we searched the forum, turned out a lot of us was going through this ordeal and needed to install a gas cap vent. forist said it doesn't happen to everyone, but when we followed his mod both cars started right up! You might want to include this project the next time you work on your ride. I have an XT and after just 2 tanks it quit on me. Scared it was something major, but when I installed this gas cap vent, it's bashing and screaming again. This pic is my other bud's brand new XT and we talked him into installing one also. it's almost done, just waiting for the one way fuel filter to come in. here's forist link to explain more about this mod.

Yes you are correct all R/C cars will break from bashing, but I haven't bashed the XB yet. Hahaha... Redcat does offer a great price and a great platform 4wd buggy style large scale. I have over 10yrs in the nitro R/C's and about a year in large scale gas.

With the Gas cars it seems to come down to a coin toss

Sending the XB engine back to Redcat for warranty hope it works out. Or this will be my last Redcat purchase.

awessome parts support

I'm sure they will take care of you. I had a lower suspension arm pin break with just normal driving and suddenly my left front wheel just went crooked. I was't going to bother with the warranty, it was only $7.99, but they were the one who volunteered for me to use my warranty. filled out a short form and they shipped it out asap. Awesome.

problems tuning

hello all, i am not an expert either but i have a few years with two stroke engines, i have been into boats for 7 years, and i will tell you that although two stroke engines are simple they can get crazy and send you into a coma if you don't do things right, i bought an xt 3 months in tires were gone and wont idle, bogs down when accelerating, i swapped the carb out with my boat carb wt813 from walbro worked perfect, serviced the original carb over and over wont work, there is a little rubber section sealed in the carb that was doing this, but your best bet is to change it out with a WT 813 walbro, check gizmo motors they have the carb cheap but one flaw it doesn't carry a choke, when diagnosing a problem its better to be sure so you don't have to keep checking the same thing twice, eg when you pull the carb to service make sure the gasket is in good shape or just replace it, i have found that the insulator block that is used with the redcat is cheap in quality, as you know it screws down with two screws to the block and two screws from the carb on opposite sides, if you remove this block you will see that it is twisted out of shape from tightening the carb which is usually the case and can cause air to suck in on the sides making it impossible to idle smoothly, i replaced my block with a better quality one and now she purrrs like beast, smooth constant idle, really nice, also the servos used in the xt are glitchly especially the throttle, change them immediately they are gonna send you crazy, cheers

gas tank no probs

when you take out the cover you will see two rubbers that come out one has a rubber flap on it, the other has a dome, look at the one with the flap that covers the holes, see the flap diameter is to big and seals against the dome blocking the suction from releasing in the tank, which in turn runs the car out of gas, simple no cost fix, trim the rubber so that it cannot contact the sides of the dome but still blocks the holes and wooohooo problem solved, the initial tightening and contact with gas stretches the rubber, cheers
