Come on James.
Replace the chassis - carbon or not (HEY, AND IDEA!!! Keith can tailor make one for you!!!) - and the smile comes back again.
You know you want to!
I'm in 'Paradise' except I have to work, and don't have any spanners to 'play with' !!

f**k dude! :(

bet u were gutted :(

As for fail safes.... When they work, they are great & i know people swear by them, but i aint 1 of them!

i used fail safes on my nitros but like everything in life, they aint guaranteed to work 100%

When i installed them, i would check, check double check, tripple check etc... yet when i NEEDED them to work, they would do the opposite & lock my carb at WOT, didnt happen all the time, maybe once or twice but that was more than enough. So since ive never used fail safes. The only thing i am goin to fit is a remote kill switch

are you going to bother with a kill switch after this experience? Im still undecided. I have posted somewhere that the guy at rossmods said they are more trouble than they are worth.

Now you mention it, it happened to me before I re-programmed my Raminator's failsafe, after swapping the servos - worked in the opposite direction.
I did check before, or it could have been a sad - and FAST - end !!!

Well its sitting on the workbench with the radio out and the front end off.It will be fixed but I'm going to have to wait for my face to go down.
J.
And I'm going to lob that switch.

If someone really thinks that kill switches are "more trouble than they are worth" I would suggest that person takes up a less dangerous hobby.

Do you think I would install a killswitch just to wreck a brand new car?????
I had nine fifth scales at on time and have five left now and NEVER had a problem yet until I installed a killswitch!Sometimes they are not compatable and I was assured that it was.
How long have you been into the hobby ??because every time you come on the forum you nearly always have something negative to say.

My face is just fine now to home dental surgery preformed about half hour ago with a 1mm drill bit and three surgical needles!(no,I'm not joking!!!!)
The Killswitch was put on the bog standard KM 2.4Ghz radio gear and not my Spekky, but it still should have worked.! as said it would.

Your experiences are the exception, as the huge majority of people have no problems with them, and to write off killswitches as car wreckers just because you had problems is plain silly.

So you had a compatability issue? So what? Sort it out either by changing your radio or the killswitch. Running without one could cause damage to the hobby, not just the poor victim you wipe out and your resulting bankruptcy.

I only say something negative when someone says something stupid. (BTW I have been active in all forms of R/C since 1960)

So anyone running without 1 is in your opinion damaging the hobby. That will be quite a lot then. How long have kill switches been around & what were people using in the early 90's when these things were coming to the fore? If they were considered absolutely essential to participate in the hobby then the manufacturers would be forced to include them as a standard safety feature. Most who don't run 1, including myself, have a failsafe as minimum protection. don't get me wrong I can see the sense in having one but I think the failsafe's and 2.4ghz sets have most eventualities covered. Your wording comes across very strong as if its 'your way or no way'. You are more likely to convince people with friendly advice rather than a bollocking

Sorry if I come across too strongly, I do not mean to offend anyone, but equally, I feel passionate about running our cars as safely as possible, as they have the potential to actually kill people, much more so than any of the other R/C cars out there.

Please don't paraphrase what I was saying... if you wipe out somebody, and it turns out you didn't have a killswitch, I would bet that the victim's lawyers would have a field day, and the media would latch on with rthe usual headlines - ban them etc etc, thus threatening the hobby itself. Remember in this day and age, people seem to have no problems agreeing that stuff they personally aren't into can be banned.. one serious accident (especially to a little child) will see the dogs released....

As for making killswitches compulsory, I reckon they really should be standard from the factory if we want to be responsible for the safety of our cars. Interestingly, the fifth scale track in Sydney will not allow a car to run unless it has a working killswitch.

voo2doo, "who the hell are we going to wipe out there?" Can people honestly swear black & blue that they never run their Baja anywhere near bystanders (and with a runaway, "anywhere near" could easily be 100 yards or more, let's not even think of the Bajas running on the street... The person most likely to be hit is the person who is unfamiliar with the cars, not the guys with the transmitters.

I agree that they should come as factory standard. The victims lawyers would have a field day ,but they are made from the factory without one so there really is no come back, they are optional extras.
I myself have seen these cars running near the public, but as I have said I DO NOT! and the lads I run with know the consequences if they are hit,its part of the hobby.

I am one of the "you should have a Killswitch" brigade, but I completely agree that if you only ever drive in a safe environment then it only protects you financialy, so is of limited use. (See some other thread about failsafes where there is a video of some idiot driving a nitro on a BMX track with kids, when the enevitable happens)

Your right there Brawny, they do only protect your wallet if your running in a safe area, didnt protect mine though:w00t::w00t::p

I've seen the vid of the airborne nitro taking out a girl on a BMX bike, and labelled as if its humerous - I'm sure it wasn't for her - but imagine if instead of a 3.5kg buggy, it was a 12kg Baja, Marder, etc? !!!! :omg:

I agree we shouldn't get paranoid, but we must take care in a similar way to motorists - operators of passenger vehicles - do.
