Yes mate,they are axle mounted.I built a crawler/monster truck 20 years ago woth a brass tube frame jobbie and clod axles.
Back then we used lathe motors to get the torque and NOVAK Esc.s.
No pics available i'm afraid...(digi cameras were a fortune then).
It was in an issue of RC CAR ACTION in the readersa ride section in about 1998 I think?
