CY plating failing?

Took some pictures of the inside of my 26cc CY marine cylinder. It looks as though the plating is starting to come off above the exhaust port, there are dull marks and the piston has scratches (though you can't feel them, so they aren't that deep).


Is this your typical CY plating failure? It still runs fine and has lots of compression but I'm guessing it's on it's way out...

my gasket did the same thing with not even a full tank through it i bought it from ddm but if i was you i would go to a copper gasket and don't forget to slicone the gasket

I have a similar issue but mine I'm still exactly not sure what caused it. Something broke off and caused my piston and head to be like yours. So I bought a OBR 30.5 5hp motor. So far no problem. I don't like those Chinese made engines... :(
 
Thanks for the link deluge. My engine still runs good, i'll definetely run it until it blows.
 
Yeah they are much better quality. Im happy with how this engine has performed though, and its real cheap for a new head kit @ $55.
