Well today i took my baja out for it first real run. Ran it hard on sand with paddles. First i must say this car is strong not one part broke. Ran almost a gal of gas. When i got home and pulled the radio box and fuel tank out and the motor covers to clean it i noticed alot of oil and crud along the other sides of the head bolts. Is this common with the 2 bolt motors? I know when this motor goes i will be getting a 4 bolt motor for sure.

Sorry for the leaking.
How loose is the head?
Generally, like nitro engines, after every run, or certainly the first runs, always go over all of the bolts, and particularly those for the engine - head, mounting, etc.
Always check the linkages - steering, throttle/brake, carburettor.

Al.

i,ve never had a problem with heads coming loose on 2 bolt motors ,but ive seen exhaust gaskets leak on new k,ms and oil drip down to the bottom of the head .

The head bolts were tight. The leaks were right about 90* from head bolts on both sides. The exhaust was clean with no oil from there. It wasn't a lot of leakage. Like I said the car was beat on for almost 4 hours on a mx track and on the beach by our river here.

if you get a chance get a DDM reinforced gasket set ,it will crush 40% and does a real good sealing i have replaced all the stock gaskets with them

I am just think of getting a 4 bolt motor. I am really hard on the car. It's leakage isn't a lot but noticeable after a full 4 or more hours of beating on it. I might try the ddm gaskets and see how it goes.

k,m gaskets are,nt the best i run stock blue zenoah gaskets they work well, you said your running sand paddles make sure you only run them on dry loose sand ,i run mine on hard wet sand and it rattled the buggy to bits,

Yea the sand is very dry to around 6" down. Its really fine sand left for us after last years flood. Its sand that came up from the sand aquafers. It gets every where. But not inside the motor. The pre filters sure get dirty fast. But thats what they are for.

I did have clutch support bolt work out and jamed into the brake pad on sunday. So only got to run about a hour. Luckly my lhs had the clutch shoes they wore quick when the brake got jamed. But now all the bolts have green thread lock on them so should not have that problem again. Now waiting on a new pull start and hpi radio box to get here. Noticed the paws on the pull start were waring very quick and ordered one with the metal paws.

Also my fly wheel has a fin broke off. Is it ok to run it like that?

yes one fin breaking off is ok but anymore and get a new flywheel .sand will wreck a clutch in hours ,you can get an enclosed clutch mount k,m do a nice one. the pull starts are crap on the k,m try to get one with metal pawls, i got an fg one and had it 3 years without any problems.
