I was leaning towards the OBR prostock 29.5cc. 5+ HP should be more than I need

Definitely so, if it is going in a 2wd model.
Lost of times going with high HP makes the cars Very hard to control for newer drivers, so I would suggest using a stock engine to get good at driving, and then move up to bigger power.

For newer drivers that is.

That's why I was opting for the prostock and not a full mod. Im just a basher but I don't want it to be so squirrelly I can't control it lol

As with ANY performance engine, there is the chance of problems.
I believe many of the issues were caused, and are caused by incorrect tuning.
If you purchase an OBR engine, I would suggest watching the tuning videos on youtube, or calling Dan, and getting some proper advice from the Pro's.
Different carbs., and different weather, and running conditions can change settings a bit, and sometimes that small bit can cause engine failures.

I've seen several guys seize brand new engines, strictly due to tuning to lean.
Always pay attention to the sound of the engine, and performance as well.
Once ran for a bit, checking the color of the spark plug can also be a great tuning tool.

I am a firm believer that before you can mod or fix something you should understand how it works. I saw a video on youtube from OBR he made a comment about the plastic spacers behind the coil. He said you have to use plastic and not metal to keep the coil from grounding to the cylinder. He obviously does not no how it works. It grounds to the cylinder through the bolts that hold the coil on. If it didn't there would be no spark. matter of fact the top motor builders will change them to metal to get hotter more consistent spark. Do to the loctite on the bolts creating resistance.

This mechanically oriented hobby is like any other, for those looking for more power and upgrade, its based on trial and error.

Many swear by OBR, but also there are many who regret to have acquired one.

Just to test the waters, I got a Zenoah 290 on its way, and slapping a Booster pipe along the way to see how it goes. Many recommend the 3rd bearing mod, have to do more research on how it is done. Looking more into a high rev engine than a torque monster.
