If it is has gouges, scratches, or any other kind of damage to the cylinder walls you will lose compression and your engine will not start or will not run very well. You will need to replace the topend (cylinder, piston, and ring).

There are many topend replacement kits available. Check www.davesmotors.com and see what's in your budget. Stock replacement/rebuild kits can be as little as $60 all the way to race ported kits for $150.

Just a curious question, but was it from the same person who told you to swap out the 25cc for a 23cc?

The dunerunner 4x4 hasn't been out too long and the only way you should have any pitting is if dirt got into the engine or if your tune was way lean. I haven't see the dunerunner 25cc yet in person, but I'd have to believe they're a decent engine. I believe Rob has had on on his dunerunner 2x4 for 8 months now without a problem.

I guess what I'm trying to do is throw in some caution here because you really shouldn't have any pitting unless there was some other problem either with tuning or dirt and if you don't find that problem first the new head kit you put on may be gone just as fast. Good luck with getting your car back in action.

yes. i asked about the engine swap..

you see the car is only 3 days old and after running it for 30 mins. for the first time the engine cut out. i told redcat about it (it's still under warranty) and they told me the only engine that was in stock was a 23cc cy engine (it came with a 25cc) which they would give me free of charge.

I'm just upset that i haven't enjoyed the car for an hour....

Called ddm and they told me to swap out the head with this part number "CA370".

what doyou guys think will it work...or just put the 23cc engine on from redcat?

Ive had the CA370 headkit, it bolts right onto the motor and performs very well. Very simple swap. If we had some good quality pics on the inside of your cylinder we might be able to tell if screwed or not.

Ya I'd be curious to see the inside also. I've never heard of "pitting". Everytime something get into an engine or if it ran too lean it usually leaves vertical gouges/scratches but never a "pit".

A long while pack Mr. ESP was looking into pitting damage from an engine pre detonating. Nobody has seen it before. My guess is because you will usually burn the walls up before pre-det damage can effect the piston top.

The tech guy told me that the marks on the inside of the cylinder might be a manufacturing fault........ I have no idea, but redcat seems to be ok with replacing the engine (with a 23cc one).

Guess i'll change the head ....hope it works. i'll try sending some pics.

The GP290 top end will give you more torque (take off) you might notice a slight decrease in top end but I doubt it. Off road applications your never on full throttle long enough to notice unless your doing speed passes at the local school field or out in front of the house on the pavement lol!

Can u nelieve that I bought the ca370 head from ddm and afer an hour of driving I have the same problem. I have some slight markings in the cylinder head. What can I do to stop this. Need help !!!!!

How does your carb look? Do you change the filter in your tank? How about an in line filter? Air leaks can suck in dirt. Believe me I know first hand. Like sprint77 told me you have to seal that bugger up real good.
