Hi guys i have just joined the forums and would like to add another car to the stable. However i cant decide between the FG baja 4wd competition or the MCD race runner.
I would like to have 4 wheel disc brakes but alot of people have said the belt drive on the FG is no good and that the MCD shaft drive is better. I also like the fact that the MCD platform is mostly the same and that i can change from car to truck and so fourth. But some people have said that the MCDs are about 40 pounds and so cant be jumped without damage and that parts are more expensive but that they handle better.

What do you all think

bit of a tough one to say either way. both have their benefites and pit falls. i guess for me it would depend on which has has the more expensive pitfalls to get over.
 
What cars do you have already? If you have FG's you may want to stick with these for ease of spares & parts sharing with your other cars. But then again if you already own FG's you may want something different :confused: Bang for buck FG's are excellent but it sound like you are swaying towards the MCD.
 
The new R&R has some really good reviews, I would probley go for that but then I would'nt buy a 4wd, thats me thow..lol..

The 5B SS
ESP race ported 30.5, victory rc pro pipe, Lauterbacher 4 shoe clutch, 813 carb, turtle racing front and rear shock mounts, threshold rezzies on all corners, baja skunkworks, 4 wheel disc brake setup with third channel brake bias

Dwarfy, i don`t own any FG`s, MCD`s at the moment so that does not come into play

Super654, i have read some of the reviews on the V4 and although they are very good i have been told that MCD`s cant be jumped and beat on properly because of the weight of them and they break easily???? Also parts are expensive and is the shaft drive that much better than belt drive and if so why???

Jesus and his donkey, i would agree that the FG 4WD looks to be cracking bit of kit but so does the MCD, but the question still remains is it as good as the V4 handling/durability wise. Parts availability will be from overseas as i am in Australia

I guess what i am asking is are there acutally real basis to put one better than the other or is it a Chevy VS Ford thing. I don`t want to be court in that boat where if i buy one everyone says i should have bought the other.

ive had my FG Baja 4wd sport for over 2 months now. I speak to sellers and owners allot and am confident in telling you the belt drive system is not a problem. very reliable and allot smoother than the shaft driven units. the FG's are super tough. ive never owned a MCD so I cant comment on them but have seen allot of good reviews about their new model.

I think the FG may be a better basher and the MCD better suited to racing, I think the handling of the MCD will be allot better but I would be surprised if the MCD can take a beating like the FG's.
