if i fit diff raisers on my marder
do i just space the engine to diff brace accordingly
or is there some special part/trick to using these
:helpsmilie:

Which engine mounts and diff spacers to use?

hey guys,

got my marder but the guy i bought it from was a muppet and i have had to fix a lot of things.

one problem still persists. the gears betwen the engine and the diff are slipping .. because the triangular part (#6071) (diff brace) cant fit! the heights are off!

mods so far:
the engine mount has been upgraded to an aluminum one
the diff has been upgraded to a limited slip one (apparantly), and associated spacers have been used

the issue:
the top of the engine mount screws into a triangular diff brace part (6071) and that screws into the diff housing, the heights are off. the engine is approximately 1/4 inch lower than the diff housing due to the diff spacers being used. i think this means that either the wroing engine mount is on or there is a engine mount spacer that i need to use that will raise the engine. does this make sense?

no instructions or exploded views include the limited slip diff with the diff spacer and the associated engine mounts and triangular part. i guess i just need the right combination of parts.

can anyone help me and let me know what is wrong? and what i need to get to fix!

mucho thanks

thanks for the help man ..

do you know the part numbers for the bigger engine mount? still cant find this on any manual .. what exploded parts diagram would this be on? don't want to buy the wrong thing as I'll replace the mount with an alu one and it may cost a bit!!

;o)

I just read the response above again as requested .. but the way i read it is 'the larger motor mount is supposed to be taller to fit the brace' are you trying to describe:

1. the fact that one of the stock mounts is larger to fit the brace or
2. that there is a SPECIAL LARGER large engine mount that can be purchased so that the brace can fit on the car when the diff sacers raise the diff, etc

i'm still pretty unclear on what needs to be done to get the diff bracket fitted properly with the diff raised and the spacers used.

Do what i did and put a small bend in the bracket.....its worked no probs for mine and the gear mesh is spot on.

hey man its like a 2-3mm steel bracket !! hard to bend accurately,

and did you bend it twice to form a 'z'? don't you loose like a 1/4 inch of length! howd it fit afterwards? i cant see how i can recover 1/4 inch of space.

a pic would be great, do you have one?

don't mind giving it a go but just need to know where to bend! thanks

I don't have a picture to hand but will try to get one as soon as i put the engine back in.

ahh the LEOPARD LARGE MOUNT!!!! this is the info i have been looking for!!! ;o)

i'll look it up .. thanks v. much for this info!

the guy i bought the car from may have used the nuts to fill the gap (and it is a good idea) but this probably 'pulled' or bent over time as the top hole on the stock large mount is now stripped .. so .. i need to buy a new engine mount anyway but just wanted to make sure that i got the right part for the job.

i will post the part numbers when i look it up shortly and any followup questions.

its a marder but bought second-hand .. when i knew less about what to look for .. from a guy who (i consider) jipped me. this is my first gas (petrol) model .. sold the glo to get this!

i eventually figured out that the guy had put lots of carson type aftermarket parts on it .. i have had to replace shocks, roll cage, and a bunch of other stuff and still trying to sort out the little things .. i figure i will live with it and repair as i go but trying to get something reliable at the mo.

ultimate goal .. monster beetle type buggy.

still to do, recondition limited slip diff (if its really that), get brakes to work properly, tune up engine

still looking! - cant find that part number for the lepard large mount!!

YES! the LEOPARD NEW BEETLE manual (E.06005-06006) has the DIFF SPACER and two engine mounts numbered:

1. small engine mount - part num 6264
2. large engine mount - part num 6265

This differs from the stock engine mounts which have part numbers 6134 & 6135

It looks like some other parts are different as well, like the gear carrier.

if it's a mardar why you fittin diff raiser?? if you get a standard marder large engine mount it should fit and line up correctly, if the guy has fitted some carson stuff to it you may have the wrong diff mounts too as some of the clone stuff isn't a perfect copy of the fg stuff as i bought some diff mounts a while back for my hobbypro buggy (supposed to be an fg clone) and they didn't fit, can you post some pics of it built up to let us see the problem b4 you start orderin bit for it??

Oh sorry,

The car does have the upgraded (what looks like a 8485/5 Alloy differential gear adjustable - although this too is busted and spinning like a normal diff) limited-slip differential it has a case that has a 'lip' around it making the diff case wider than the standard diff case

i tried to reassemble without the spacer and the diff rubs on the 5mm alu chassis plate

.. it does make sense to me that the diff spacer had to be added, but i may be wrong. is this whats normally done when a marder is upgraded with the limited slip diff?

Oh I just found an alternative part .. this is a 5mm raised diff carrier .. this I think would mean that only the diff is raised and all other parts reman stock .. its the TPS 0316 +5mm at http://www.pitstop-shop.nl/

you don't need to fit the raisers bud, if you get a dremile and just cut a peice out of the chassis so the lip sits through. then just get the standard marder mounts and it'll fit and line up mate

the Leopard engine mounting holes have :no:different hole centre spacing

than the marder engine mount............all you have to do is is cut a rectangle

out of your chassis and use the marder mounts:clown:

you can just see in this pic of my marder with a viscous diff

OOOHHHHH!!!

Humm that makes sense. Cut the chassis! OK ..

One more question, why the spacer then? what is it used for? is there any advantage using it?

I'm wondering if the spacer is sometimes used to raise the gear so that the gear cover does not have to be used.

The on road large engine mount is taller than the off road to take up the space. on roads use the dif riser to drop the weight down lower (using the dif riser puts the chassis closer to the ground when the arms are level compared to a standard off road setup). Why I said to use a spacer then. I have built quite a few on and off roads lately and have played around with many different mounts.
