hi all,
i just managed to take off my shengqi hummers layshaft gear as it has stripped and i have noticed that it is not the same as the fg ones. instead of there being a grub screw there is a circlip and a wooduruff key that holds it on.im just wonering where i could get another one of these gears or would this one : http://www.freeprawnracing.co.uk/blackbone-steel-layshaft-gear-for-fg-etc.-bbsg-1xl.html work. im guessing not but it says for smartech carson etc.
Thanks
Toby:)

If you get the FG gear just file (or use a grinder with flap disc or sanding pad) a couple of flats on the shaft for the grub screws. The flats just stop the gear spinning on the shaft once the grub screws are tightened up.

Using loctite on the threads of grub screws makes them a pain to get out if ever you need to! I just tighten the grub screws down then put a drip of loctite on the head around the thread (ie not in the hex!!) which I find is enough to seal the top to stop it from undoing itself whilst still allowing easy removal.

I think Mike uses grub screws with torx heads which are far better.

yeah i was contemplating doing that but i was wondering,if the gears would mesh properly as the fg one has a bit that sticks out the side of the gear for the grub screws, and my one doesn't..having said that part of my isssue is that the gears arent meshing together properly anyway so mabee having the bit with the grubscrew would be a good thing as it would make the gear sit abit further out on the shaft
