I'm a 1/8th buggy racer and have a question about 1/5th differentials. I see that FG and Harm have adjustable diffs and I'm wondering about the principle of these diffs. It looks like they have an adjustment that allows the bevel gears can be tightened up against some sort of friction material? If that's the case, my question is what is this friction material made of? It obviously has to work immersed in oil. Just looking at some new ideas for 1/8th scale cars!

Thanks in advance

no idea but the FG diff is grease filled not oil. not sure if that helps you any, if you cant find the answer on what you want send an email to [email protected] (chequered flag racing) who is the importer for FG in Australia im sure he can help you.

Look at the FG Modellsport website, and you'll find the drawings.
You'll see the brass / bronze bushes you correctly state are tightened against.
These are 'wear items', so obviously the tighter you adjust it AND more brutal you drive, the more quickly they will deteriorate.

i use basket washers the hpi baja diff has them as standed but theres still a little in a out movment of the bevel gears so i added another two this keeps the gears tight together, oh and i don,t use diff oil ,i use lithium high temp, grease.
