I'm working on a custom 4wd brushless 1/5 scale and am trying to avoid making my own differentials.

How reliable are the rampage diffs? Does the bevel driving the housing hold up well? Are all the gears steel?

Stock gears are plastic or something like that. They can be upgraded to metal if needed.

Can't say much about differentials, but they work great for me.

The Rampage suffered from diff cup issues prior to the V3s. I haven't heard of a diff cup failure in a long time. With the right tempering process the Rampage diffs can sustain some SERIOUS abuse.

With too much power, the problem is the plastic diff case, witch allow some flex and skip thooth on the crown and pinion gear, to date I have strip two sets..... and litterally melted the diff case.

Make sure to shim the pinion in the differential (0.6mm shim is fine), because from the factory the mesh is too large and those gears are made of soft metal, not hardened, + they run almost half tooth if not shimmed........ bad receipe.

I'm rebuilding my diffs shortly, where am I shimming them? The pinion that hits the crown gear on the diff case? Or inside the case where there are planetary gears. Not sure where you would use a shim in there other than the stock large one that goes under the two larger left and right planetary gears.

He means the outside larger gears for engine drive-train are stock plastic and they sell steel upgrades.

The Diffs are all metal and hold up well (but need a shim as Martin says)

The drive cups if you get the V3 are holding up well so far...V2 cups as Beast said will need work.
