That was such a great history lesson! I thought there was only 3 (purple, ss orange, and the new sbk kit). Good to know! The reason I'm looking for that part is because I'm cleaning / restoring my purple one to original factory condition and trying to put all original HPI bone stock parts on it. Thanks for the info!i don't think, in fact i'm sure ( from memory, i'm old) that the original baja came with or that part was offered on the early ones fella,
it was just pictured in the original manual with no reference/part number etc,
people did make a diy extender themselves to try and keep oil from getting spewed everywhere over the tranny etc,
baja 5b history goes, original purple ( like you have ) chassis and shock tops/ adjuster rings, y plate, tranny plate,
also had skinny dog bones and 22mm cups, also had 4mm shock shafts as well,
then the second 5b which was orange chassis and shock tops, tranny plate etc etc,
i think that second one had the skinny dogbones still and also had the 4mm shock shafts, also a 26cc engine instead of the original 23cc,
i think they later did an orange ss version same as above but with larger dogbones and 25mm diff cups, also had the vvc shocks with 6mm shock shafts,
also came with the pigtail exhaust, 26cc engine,
then the 5b ss which had gunmetal chassis and shock caps , tranny plate etc, larger diameter dogbones and 25mm diff cups, vvc shocks with 6mm shock shafts,
pig tail exhaust, 26cc engine,
then the 5sc which was the truck version, came with all the above, main chassis was like an almost black colour, but the rest was gunmetal anodising,
same vvc shocks with 6mm shafts, same larger dogbones and 25mm diff cups,26cc engine, and also the truck tyres with 60mm wide front rims and 65mm wide rears, and also the truck body and body mounts plus side guards,
the ss and 5sc versions also came with a 4600mah nimh battery as well,

I was able to find the original can muffler in the shiny non painted version that came with the car and ordered it from a hobby shop in the UK. Just hunting for the original pipe now.thanks fella,
tbh i'm a little hazy around the orange one, in my head there was an orange 5b then the orange ss came along with the updates,
could have been the orange one was the first ss then that went to gunmetal,
i've built and seen quite a few bajas over the years and never seen a purple one with the can extender pipe unless it was a home made one,
someone else may chime in and correct me if i'm wrong though,
yeh i seen your thread, its nice to see theres still the odd original purple baja around that are pretty much standard,
you seem to be going all out on building it as original as possible so you may as well refresh the 23cc engine internals as wellI was able to find the original can muffler in the shiny non painted version that came with the car and ordered it from a hobby shop in the UK. I have a bunch of parts on order. Rebuilding the shocks and rear transmission with original parts and replacing all bearings with new factory HPI bearings as well.
I also found the original Fuelie engine and fan covers from Germany that come with the original stickers (mine was missing the stickers).
Debating if I should also rebuild the engine with original partsIt runs now, but it would be sweet to have it brand new.
I found this replica I might just use the pipe it comes with and airbrush it to the original grey color until I find an original:you seem to be going all out on building it as original as possible so you may as well refresh the 23cc engine internals as well,
not sure if you're gonna keep it as a permanent shelfer or run it now and then, but if parts are still around at a reasonable price then go for it,
i think you will struggle to find that can extender though, if it even exists, you may have to just have to copy the pic in the manual and make your own,

the replica will be better than nothing fellaI found this replica I might just use the pipe it comes with and airbrush it to the original grey color until I find an original:

it will probably dull off to the right colour anyways with oxidisation of the air etc,
