Hi there guys was out on a pretty rough bashing session yesterday. Went pretty well untill the cylinder head came loose. After a re-tightening of the 2 cylinder bolts it went fine again (except a higher idle ?!). When we were about to end the session for the day i did a rollover in pretty high speed and when i turned it back on the wheels there were no drive to the wheels when i applied throttle. First i though that the diff went to hell but after a little closer look i saw that one of the differential axles were missing. Found it near the car and had a look at it, and one side of it had broken off. The axle was pretty worn down and old so i did expect it was gonna happen. The driveshaft also came loose and i gave it a look and noticed it were somewhat bent, i changed them just before the run so they were completely new. The old ones were extremely bent.
Anyone knows if this is normal behavior and if there is any strengthened shafts / diff axles. One thought i had was that it might be the wishbones travels to far down when it has airtime etc and the axles get bent against the wheel/diff axles if you get what i mean :S kinda hard to put in words.

Cheers !

Hi there.
Sounds like a heavy hit.
After you re-tightened the head, the idle was a bit higher?
Either the throttle/brake rod is bent slightly, or you have a slight leak.
Bent shafts - wow - big hit!!
How are the diff bearings - are they stuffed, thus the diff is out of alignment?

Al.

chances are youve got a leaking or blown base gasket, inspect asap before your next bash session, the air leak will raise running temps and increase chances of a seized motor.

Its a FG MT 2wd with the 26cc engine. Got a Victory pipe on it and a 813HP carb.
Don't think the axles got bent by the hit, it was high speed but not very violent.
BTW does anyone have tips how the get around problems with air filter coming loose in rough/hard terrain? :)

Change your head gasket. If you suck crap in you till take the motor out. Or at least spray it down and make sure you do not have an air leak. Air leaks will cause it to lean and have a high idle.

Are you talking about the drive shafts or the cups?

I have had a bent drive shaft from new and never had any issues. The cups will break on a hard on throttle landing from the torque.

I guess anything is possible depending on the abuse.
