Ok, so last weekend my Dunerunner just quit... mid run just quit on me. The performance was not good and when I let off the throttle to turn around it just died. I could not get it re-started at all. I removed the spark plug and there was spark, when replacing the plug, another guy saw the head on my engine twist. The head was indeed loose. I needed the Carb for another truck, so I swapped the DR carb (which was performing great) and swapped it with one that was very sluggish from my XT... seeing as the DR was just going to warm the bench for a few days.

Today is my next day off from work after that day. I just tightened the head up real tight, and when I gave the string a pull, luckily I was holding on because this thing would have taken off on me. The throttle servo is just fine, the needles are set back to factory settings, the throttle is not stuck in any kind of way- does anyone know why my Dunerunner is trying to run away?

Thanks,

GTMO JOE

yea these these engines will rev to the moon when they have a base gasket leak- leaned out to the max. You could have destroyed the base gasket - good idea to look closely in this area.- this could be why it does not want to start.- If i was not so far away, I would rebuild as a favor - no charge. but, i am in N.E. Oregon-- the shipping costs, down time. These 2 bolts can be made dependable and run like a scalded dog- just have to work the little bugs outta them. good luck.

not a problem... I will steal a kids bike and cut out the inner tubes to make a new gasket...

HA HA HA HA HAH AHH (evil laugh)...

So we are talking about the head gasket or the carb gasket? and can a new one be made with inner tube until a new gasket gets here?

The head gasket. You can try it. But you'll probably have the same problem that most people have with the rubber cylinder gaskets, that is they tend to get sucked into the cylinder. I've seen a few guys use cardboard in a pinch and it worked, surprisingly.

Correct..

Air leak for sure.

Quite well, like the rest of the weekend or the rest of the season??

I guess my problem is when ever I take something apart I only want to install something better. LOL

I have the ported head upgrade in my "shopping cart" at DDM, but am still raising the money for my $250 worth of stuff I want (air filter and extra bits and pieces)... so, as soon as I hit that mark, I will get the upgraded head.

I will fix the current dunerunner motor with a homemade gasket, I still have the original motor out of the MT that I can break apart and put the ported head on. Some guy on here asked about a "roller" and I offered him my XT but I guess my price was too high because he is not returning any emails since I sent him a price... Gotta pay to play :D

Many of the requests in the wanted section seem to be looking for give aways. Oh well, at least you tried.

I definately will... I am going to try to break the engine down this week some time... then a day or 2 of experimenting... my next two days off are Thursday and Friday, so it will definately be tested by then... :D

So, turns out that I am a little slow on the pickup here...

The week before my head gasket blew out in my DR, I had it out at the skate park. I was not doing very large jumps by any means, but I did have a small accident where I drove straight into a cement step. It was not going fast AT ALL, and I was amazed that the little bump (which must have been pretty solid) bent up the frame where the front body piece is attached. Also after this little bump, I noticed that my rpms went up. At the time I did not understand why, but I guess this is when the head bolts were knocked loose and the air leak started. So, now I know why the DR had acted funny all the way up to the day that it totally quit on me...

However, when I took the piston out, it looks fine.
