Does anyone have any experience with these?
Elcon 14660 is for the MT but has a total teeth count of ... 63.
Elcon 18660 is for the ST but has a total teeth count of ... 64.
FG MT standard mesh gears have a total teeth count of ... 64.

Can I use the 18660 on my MT?
With my motor upgrades, I may forego some initial power for better top speed, but will have a choice.

in my opinion the elcon helical gears are very expensive:no:

i have heard somewhere as they are not as strong as straight cut gears

just a thought back in the 60s/70s the racing mini cooper S used a straight

cut set of gears in there gear boxes the only thing with straight cut gears

is that they are noisier than the helical...but this also tells me they are stronger:)

There's a gear set + extra pinions on FleaBay.

What thoughts do you have on the 2-speed?

I remember the whining straight cut 'racing 'boxes' also. The reason given was they were more efficient at transferring power, for some reason.
Obviously took a lot of stick in racing as you say.
Helical are for smoother meshing. Bigger area to transfer load also. They also look 'more real' than the normal straight-cut 'toy gears'.
Jury's out for me.

The reason helical gears are quieter is that at any given time they always have two teeth connecting where as cross cut only have one!

All i can put that down to is a finer cut? When i raced 10 th scale tourers there was 64 and 32 pitch.The latter being a courser mesh,noisey but stronger than the 64 pitch which was made for more choices of gears but were weaker than 32.
So in Elcons case I can only see there gears made for more choice in ratio and they will be quieter.

The Heli gears in my Cleon are awesome. They spin so freely that it's as if there is no drivetrain. Expensive and if you're not racing not necessary. Personally I've found a steel pinion and a plastic spur has been fine on all my FG's.
