On DDM site they state:

(I edited out details of oil proportions, I think I'm good on that.)

How should I break-in my Zenoah or Chung Yang RC-style engine?

DDM recommends the following break-in procedure:

Run the engine at varying speeds for periods of 3 to 10 minutes at a time. During this break-in time, NEVER go full throttle. Always let the engine idle for 30 seconds before turning it off. Allow the engine to cool off for 10 minutes before starting it again. Repeat this process 3 or 4 times - 3 or 4 full "heat cycles".

OK so this is what I have in mind but....

The break in from the Engine Owners manual that comes with the MT says: "For the first four hours, never allow the engine to run more than 5000 rpm [*I assume about when stock clutch kicks in]. Then, the engine comes to normal working."....then oil mixture to 1:30 blah blah

I'm definitely doing the "Heat Cycle" thing and just finished my second tank, but.... It seems like I should kinda do both and for the next 2-3 tanks, keep it under 5K RPM and just not heat cycle any more?

I've read some stuff on baja forums, but would like thoughts from the guys I'm getting to know and trust!

When I break my motors in I do 3 full tanks of fuel at 25:1, running rich obviously. On tank 1, I drive 10-15 min at a time varying my throttle inputs, stay below 1/2 throttle, and let it cool for 10-15 min in between runs. Tank 2, I do almost the same except I use around 3/4 throttle max. Tanks 3 starts out slow like tank 2 but after about 1/2 the tank I increase max throttle input to almost 100% and don't shut it off until its out of fuel. Let it cool completely down after the 3rd tank and the break in is over. Tank 4+ you can start thrashing it and tuning it a bit.

I do almost like Obeast:

I always run the same 25:1 mix so that never changes

I never let it run out of gas becuase it usually runs lean on the bottom 1/4-1/2 inch of fuel when accelerating or cornering. Listen and you can tell if starves it'll have erratic idle/performance at the bottom of the tank when accelerating and cornering and right after accel/cornering. Thats when I refuel so it gets all the fuel it needs.

Tank one:1-2 hours rich on both needles over stock settings, 1/4 -1/2 throttle blips. Hold no longer than 3 seconds. I think it helps seat the piston, get the parts used to each other.

Tank two: 0-1 hour rich on both, 1/4 - 3/4 throttle blips. Hold no longer than 5 seconds. Think the parts are getting used to each other and now higher temps w/ more throttle.

Tank three: stock carb settings, any postion throttle blips even full but hold no longer than 5 seconds. I think its up to normal bu not holding longer than 5 to be sure.

Tank four: stock carb settings or tune it a little. Drive like normal but I don't hold full throttle longer than 5-7 seconds to be nice.

Ive also seen people have great luck with no break in what so ever, and no bad results. Even if they don't require break in Im still going to do it for peace of mind

i do it the same way i do the boats 8oz of oil to a gallon run it at no more then 3/4 throttle for 3 tanks of fuel and let her rip, the oil i use is quicksilver outboard motor oil
