Hi guys, i've had a couple of tanks through my MT which was ran on cut grass, (cuttings removed ... or so it looked :stick:)
Taken it apart as soon as i could as i could see a few bits of grass behind the engine cover etc, but found quite a bit more than i thought (or hoped!) and now quite surprised i didn't have flames to contend with when i was running it
Are there any common mods for these to stop this happening? or is it purely down to the pullstart cover(which doesn't have an outer cover yet) which has let all of the grass through and chucked it up around the engine and packed it in tight, as thats what it looks like!
I've done the mesh mod on the internal sides of the engine, didn't think the outside would need it that bad.

Need to find some old speakers me thinks, do it ALL this time

Yes there is a great cheap fix for this problem. As you live in the UK go to Motorworld and ask for some aluminium mesh(the type that you use to repair holes in car body work and fibreglass). Behind the flywheel there are venting holes , these holes allow circulation to the head. The flywheel has two sets of fins on it ,one front the other rear, the rear ones are the ones that cause this problem .They act like a vacuum cleaner sucking up air and whatever else there is and distributing it around the head,If these holes are semi-sealed this will prevent the majority of poop going up into the head.I have sealed the holes with mesh and it seems to be 100% better and the best of it ,it will cost under a fiver and stop you cooking your engine.
I'll see if i can put pics up later.

Thanks voo2doo, i'd already done the insides using epoxy to stick on plasterboard tape (the meshy stuff) which has stayed on fine, though i'll be after some of that mesh to redo the inside 3 holes and the pullstart cover as well :trout:

Cheers

Outwears also do a pullstart cover to keep the muck out but they are about £22.00:blush:

hey guys, sorry not replied, been a bit busy.

Thanks for the suggestions, i've bought some ally mesh, the stuff you use for fibreglassing repairs, just need to find the time to fit it!

An outerwears pullstart cover will be one of the next things i'll grab hopefully, just gotta wait till i can buy one :yuk:

Cheers

I did the screen mod in the pull start and added an outerwears..... didn't save my pull start from the big arse puddle though lol... jb weld works good too. I use jb kwik cuz I am impatient
