it was my first day out with my Brandnew MCD RR, it has a 26cc engine and i have vented the gas tank. i had already started the engine prior to this day and it started alright made some short runs and shut the engine of after 5 mins. so today was its first proper break-in.

i started the engine again and it started alright and i run the car for about 3/4 tank and then we rested for a while. then the problem started when i tried starting it again. it started for about 5 secs then it bogged down and died. and thats is it! the engine never started again.

so i tried to fix it, ive change the spark plug, put the carb settings to default, primed it. but now it starts for about 5 secs and then it dies. and the cycle continues.

im just wondering what happend? it was running alright for about 30mins and then, after 3/4 tank it wont start anymore. the tank is already vented so i don't think fuel not comming up the carb is not an issue. does anybody know what im doing wrong.

your advice is much appriciated. thanks guys

Denz,
I had a similar problem the other day.. Make sure that you don't have any leaks from the carb or the exhaust. For instance mine was working fine as long as i was reving it and as soon as i stopped, that was it. It turned out that my head gasket was busted. It had actually been giving me grief for a few times, and i knew it was a leak, but couldn't figure out were.
Also, check that the exhaust is bolted in nice and snug and that the bolts didn't loosen anywhere.

I hope that is your problem as it is an easy fix.
good luck,

chris

How does the head gasket look? When you turn it over does the compression feel the same? When you remove the spark plug what is the color and is it wet or dry? Try removing the plug flipping the motor upside down and pulling about 15 times with the plug removed. Now reinstall the plug and pull it over without the choke.

Did anything change from when you ran it last? How did it run then?

don't want to poop you up mate but that sounds like what I had and it cost me a new head, piston, piston ring, small end bearing and all the hardwear to go with it.
I was running my rally in a car park for about 20 mins and it just stopped and wouldnt turn again. When I bought it back to the workshop and stripped it the small 'C' clip that retains the wrist pin had came off and bounced round the cylinder destroying eveything!!! But saying that I read that yours is starting again so its might not be that.
But then again as BTB and Zou says,it could be a head gasket, hydrolock or a cracked insulator manifold? Its got to be a leak somewhere.

I was hoping it would not go toward your top end.:( Those dang C clips are a monster when they go out. Hope thats not what happened.
Any update?

Hi guys! I've sorted out the problem, I thought there was a leak so I took out the head and check the gaskets and they were alright, and since the head is already out I took the oppotunity to put my used ported 26cc head kit. I
Started the engine and still the same, so I tested the spark plug for spark and I found out that all of my spark plugs are busted. But anyway, the car is up and running now. So thanks for the help guys.

I just want to comment on the steering links, they are rubbish! I hit the post with a low speed and the linkage broke like match sticks.and the servo tray is like. Paper the servos are dancing when they are moving because the tray is so soft
But overall the car is fantastic

the servo tray only has 3 mounting points. add a couple extra posts to the chassis on front and the flex will be reduced huge. or just get a carbon or alloy tray

Yeah those servo trays are not the best, that is the first thing I changed for an alloy one! Snapping the linkage sucks I've done it before and it put me out of commission for a while. That being said, I'd rather snap a linkage than a servo..
