Hi, a lad at work has bought a car off eBay and it's got a running fault. It will only start with the choke on and when you slowly take it off the engine revs to WOT, the only way to get it to tick over at a reasonable but still high tick over is to turn the low speed jet all the way out, I've checked all the usual suspects and there doesn't seem to be any air leaks or problems so he replaced the carb (Inc mounting and gaskets) and it's still the same???? Scratching my head now so any help would be great.

Cheers Ben

Systematic go-through is your best friend. I would start by checking the tank fuel cap that the air passage is not clogged up thus creating vacuum and running it lean. Then look everywhere in the engine and see if you see wet spots. They reveal crank case leaks and cylinder leaks. Then take off the pullstart and try to rock the flywheel up and down against the ground with a strong grip. If you feel slack or see up-down movement compared to the case the bearings and seals are shot. My 5 cents to help you get going.

Sorry not replied mate, found the problem.........oversight on my checking over, went over it again and noticed what looked like a split in the head gasket, removed the head and found the gasket split in two with a bit missing.......fek knows how it ran at all!!!! Swap the gasket, rebuild and rest the carb and fired and ran on 3rd pull.......happy days
