I have been away from the R/C Car scene for about 14 years and am thinking about getting a 1/5 scale DTM car to run in my apt. complex parking lot. I live in east Tennessee and there isn't any racing around so that is not an issue I am not trying break the bank a low dollar entry level would be fine with me. Any suggestions would be a great help Thanks in advance Gregg

There is one on ebay right now FG sportline that has a very good price.

to be honest, if you don't at least have some people to set up a track with, onroad is no fun, and 1/5 scale onroad is expensive. you need a lot of room to run one of these things. the biggest expenses with them is tires, you can chew through a set fairly quick.

this year we haven't had much time to set our track up and my car has just sat on the shelf. ive run it a couple times on my street and in parking lots, but it gets boring and i cringe thinking about how much its wearing tires doing that. for screwing around by myself i pull out the 1/10 scale car, its a lot cheaper to run, and can be run in much less room.

Greg, don't get discouraged, 1/5 scale is great fun and picking up steam. Nutech seems to have a pretty competative (FG friendly) chassis for about $1000 but you can find reasonably priced entry level cars like smartech or carson but I think your best bet is used on ebay. I've been setting up tracks for about 12 years, (fun ones) and always with about 1 or 2 other people, just tell all the hobby stores in the general area about it, get about 75 to 100 markers (for years I used soccer field cones and thick plastic orange picnic dishes from wallmart cheap) to make the basic impression of a layout, then later on try locating fire hose, I feel it works best. Let people with all scales and types race and keep putting the word out. Once the initial cost of the car is laid out, 1/5 scale is probably one of the least expensive out there, for us tires are about $40 a pair and 4 pair last most of us from march to november as opposed to 10th scale which is about $45 to $60 for three pairs, 1f and 2rs per weekend. Nitro is nearly $40 per gallon for 30% not $3.75, and thats not even comparing the 1/8 scale on road money pits. well if you want to discuss more 1/5 scale check us out on the deer park thread. Good luck with your 1/5 scale
