Spent the last month trying to get my head around the new engine regulations, more than the overall new regs ....
100 kg only of fuel, no refuelling, so they should be extra vigilant for the previous accusations of 'rocket fuel' implying super high tech and definitely not 'standard pump fuel' ....

LOVED the 3-litre V10's, particularly when the likes of the Honda was revving to 20k revs in Malaysia, for example....
Then they rev limited these engines to 18k .... not too bad, but ignition and fuel systems nearly made up the lost power ...
So they were all limited to 2.4 litre V8's .... and 18k revs again .... starting to get boring ... but they got some extra grunt with the KERS ...
Final renditions thought to be approx 800 bhp and 350 Nm torque maximum when KERS assisted.
Now they've gone turbo - yippee .... perhaps not.
1.6 litre V6's -but don't forget the famous BMW turbos of the 80's regularly producing >1000bhp in qualifying spec from a 1.5 litre 4 cylinder ....

The new-for-2014 1.6 litre V6's are chucking out 900bhp with 'ERS' (which contributes up to 160bhp), 100 kg fuel for the full race, so efficiency is imperitive, unlike that of the 80's iteration.
Compared to last year's 2.4 V8, torque is up to 600 Nm, from 350 Nm.

Last week's testing saw the Merc's going down the Bahrain straights 10 mph faster than they were in Free Practice 2 last year ...

I'm getting interested again!!
There's bound to be something limiting them again - fuel, tyres, more aero changes .....

PS I am a Lewis / Merc fan who appear to have the edge, but don't forget Merc supply quite a few teams, McLaren included, who seem hot as well. Don't rule out Red Bull - they'll be there or there abouts by the 3rd race, if not at the start.

its looking good I think,, what do you think of the noise they make I like it could be a bit louder and not happy about them not spitting flames due to the amount of fuel they run it uses it all and they do get the after burner affect like they used to dam shame I think they should be given a few k's more just to spit flames pop and bang oh god bring back the 80's motorsport's mental over powered cars inc rally touring and f1 its all become to tame

nz jet boats on men and motors that's the stuff pure mental tiny little speed boats running 1000+hp v8's its like water rallying great stuff and mega skill with out the silly tame rules

Certainly does seem like we think alike mate!!

Love the Aussie / Kiwi jet boats and record and watch whenever I can - they've gone to night racing as well!!

Glad the speed is up. The higher minimum weight and much more complex innards is seeing changes to the drivers, all reckon, or is it just people sharpening themselves prior to the new season to get an advantage ...

I would love a bit more noise, but perhaps its a sign of greater efficiency.

I simply cannot see how this is going to SAVE the teams money!!
Honda's return in 2015 should warm things up quite a bit!!
