Anyone know what the Redcat factory carb is? I have a Walbro 990 that was in my parts box but don't know if it is worth swapping. Is the CY 30cc engine a walbro 668??

The 30cc has smth close to a 668. The 32cc seems to have smth close to the 1107. The 990 you have should be an improvement on the 30cc.

no big deal,

pop off filter. insert finger into throat of carb to seal and choke. snap pulls til pops ...1-2 pulls tops

do so in a clean fashion as to not introduce debris into motor.

What Pheerider said works, but if you don't want to deal with taken off the filter or a plastic bag you can:

1- prime the bulb

2- pull the pull start slowly 3-5 times

3- start the engine

By slowly pulling the pull start you are introducing fuel into the engine. As long as you are not pulling fast enough you are not generating spark which would ignite the fuel.

990 - Prime the bulb (10 pumps or so), 3 slow deliberate pulls to get fuel into the engine and then 3-4 strong pulls. No real need for a choke actually. I do this every time on my 990. It pops off like clockwork. If it doesn't, chances are you have it flooded, and then a plug change and a bit of time to let it air out a bit and then repeat the steps above. Most likely, the 3 slow and 3 hard pulls will work every time. It does for me.

Do you actually see a performance gain with the 990 over stock? I also have the Jetpro pipe so I am figuring the combo should yield more then just the pipe alone.

You need to take into account the weather in your area. If you also want to run it in the cold, the choke is a big help (or one of the other chokeish ways, such as the plastic bag)

i am safety conscious, not seeing dangerous on snap off/twist off filter to choke, but for the less practiced i can see the apprehension.

the slow pull is also a great option and i use it if conditions favor.

Yup in NY, it is a lovely 9-10* degrees today with wind chill. The 990 was in the parts box which means I probably used it in the past and got annoyed with it, probably for lack of choke. Going to give it a try, I can always swap it back with stock.

Just curious, why would a slow pull help cold starting? What is the benefit it has over a normal pull?

I'm always doing 2-3 slow pulls before starting to pull hard, but I'm just doing that to get gas in the engine without stressing the pull start because I know for sure it's not gonna start anyway in those first 2 pulls, I always figured that 2 fast pulls would have the same effect as the slow pulls, just with added wear on parts.

exactly right ice

slow pulls allows you to "feel" the compression and fuel load. the little tight bump of feedback in a slow fashion allows this discernment and gets a bit more lube dispersed on internal parts. the fast "snap" pull on totally dry motor can produce surface marring, its a dry hi spin...not so kind to a dry motor. i do use slo pulls all the time to lube it up then choke for 1 snap starts

if conditions are low humidity and cool , a couple of slo ( AND YOU FEEL the squeeze and bump )then you know the next snap is firing .

if its COLD conditions(air temp ) or really humid choke with confidence til pop.

I also have the walbro 990 modded carb with bearings. I give it 5 slow pulls and then it starts on the 1st pull almost every time. The walbro 990 gets rid of that low end bog that the stock carb has
