Hi, im new to this forum and am looking for some help/advice. Here's a quick rundown of my problem- In december my friend and i purchased 3 maverick blackouts, one for me, one for him and one for his son, his sons was for christmas and as such didnt get used till post 25th dec. The other 2 were run in properly and the failsafes check to make sure they were ok, they were used for the first time around mid december. On its first use the failsafe failed on my friends, after around 40 mins use it shot off at high speed, my friend tried to brake then turned the transmittor off but it still went on its merry way until it hit something that wouldnt move, the impact destroyed the bodyshell completley and caused sever damage to the suspension at one corner. My friend returned the car to the shop where purchased and they fixed the failsafe and a transmittor problem, but he was told the cost of the shell and new parts to the front end were not covered.

Fast forward to last saturday, due to weather over christmas and work commitments we took the blackouts back out for only their 3rd use since purchase, mine was running ok and then the same problem occured, it shot off at high speed and neither the brake or failsafe could stop it, it hit my son, knocking him off his feet before hitting a metal park bench at high speed, the damage to mine is worse that that to my friends and my son is quite lucky that it only clipped him as it was going flat out at the time and i had no control over stopping it. My questions now are.

1. Anyone else had a problem with these?

2. Should my friends repair/replacement costs be covered as its less that 8 weeks old.

3. Will my repair replacement costs be covered?

4. Do we sent all three back as we are now in fear of it happening with the other one

Ouch sorry to hear you not having luck with ya car's. too be honest relying on only a failsafe in this beast is asking for trouble and paired with the to be honest below par radio gear n servos will only add to your pain. you should install a killswitch either a killer bee or a battleswitch. this will kill the engine if you have any trouble with servo's/radio gear.

I don't think you'll be able to get owt from hpi europe on the warranty front. but it's worth a try..

Don't sell the blackouts they are good fun but they do need some setting up.. please read this http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/topic/95224-maverick-blackout/ and this http://www.redcatrampageforum.com/showthread.php?t=25

Thanks for your reply, obviously shops don't tell you these things when you purchase from them, regarding the warranty i think it should be covered under the sale of goods act, any thoughts on that?

Yeah this is a hard one and after reading the warranty info i'm still unclear.. they cover their arse's by saying if faulty components then we'll replace at our discresion then they go on to say if product is used and components damaged as a result of crash, improper use or abuse it's not covered.. i would contact your supplier put the case to em that whilst using it their components gave in and caused this crash/damage your supplier should in turn contact hpi europe for guidance..

From what i've seen some warranties have been hounored some haven't.. it's a mine field sir...

how do they make any money fixing crashed mavricks?? now thats good customer care, in the US I don't think anybody d offers that kind of warrenty, drive it without caution, and then crash it as soon as one little thing you don't like or if you get sick of it and tell them it ranaway haha, :) I had a few runaways, a throttle linkage or servo horn can come loose or the brakes might fail anything, just get a 3 channel 2.4ghz radio and killer bee killswitch.

have checked with trading standards and it is covered under sale of goods, hpi are saying it may be because it was run in wet conditions, but the web advertising for it does state it is suitable for wet/muddy conditions, they are taking it back to look at it so i will post once they let me know the outcome

had the same problem with my rampage took off slow and stop at a tree problem was the rx fried and it went crazy plus i didnt have my failsafe wired wrong.but now its great..

Hpi contacted me saying throttle servo was fried due to water getting into it, they have changed their web description of the item and are carrying out all repairs and replacing all damaged parts for me. Very happy with the service they are providing.

Huh, talk about goin the extra mile. Glad to hear their takin care of it for ya, as far as I know its rare to see a company cover something that was water damaged.

Think they have done it due to its original description, which has now been changed. The sale of goods act in the UK really helps with things like this

My fail-safe that came with my Rampage was faulty also. I tested it (luckily without the engine on) and when I cut the power to the radio it would shift the the throttle servo to nearly full open. I had 'programmed' it to move the throttle servo to full brake but it obviously didn't work. After seeing that I dumped it and put in a good Futaba 2.4GHz system with a killer bee kill switch, a must for any 1/5th scale IMO.

so is the dsm-2c 2.4 ghz stock radio not very good, or can you use it if you have a killer bee installed, or is it better to use a spectrum dx3.

failsafe

Thanks, sounds like don't use the stock radio, I have a 5t that has the spectrum in it, I'll use the extra esc since that's what I have, I just won't be able to run at the same time if a friend wants to run one, but that might not be a bad idea since the amount of money I have in them, thanks. :)
