Hey all. I am new to this board because I am new to large scale RC. I was excited to find a place where I could talk and share about the large scale experience. I have posted in a few threads and even started 1 or 2 but it seems like every time I mention I am running a 1/6 scale electric, everything goes quiet. It seems most of the people here are gassers. I thought about going gas but the noise part didn't work for where I live.
I have been in RC for about 25 years in smaller scales like 1/10 and 1/8 and have been to many forums. This is the first time I have ever had the feeling of being avoided. I am not angry but rather a bit disappointed.
I check my threads daily and see many many views but not even 1 reply. Please tell me if I have done something wrong because I could really use some feedback....even it is negative. I understand most of us work and can't frequent the board as often as we would like, but the fact remains that the views are there, which indicates there is traffic. Please let me know if electrics are not wanted and I will move on. Thanks for listening to my rant. I hope to see some replies to this one. :(
 
I think that despite the obvious advantages - clean, relatively quiet, even more powerful - most people generally don't feel that LargeScale electric is 'correct' - thoughts of milk floats (UK) or golf carts (US) spring to mind ...

Personally I love my electrics, but the IC engine in one form or another has it's place in this hobby, and most prefer it to electric at this scale.

Most cite expense, run times, etc ....

Both have their place.

Thanks Al. I understand all that but there are some aspects of the hobby that transcend the whole IC / Electric thing, For instance...bodies, maintanence, project ability, etc. I would hope to find a little support in those areas without bias or discrimination. Well, I am going to continue posting and if anyone wants to chime in, please do. Maybe this electric guy might make or do something that could be useful in the IC world. BTW....it might not sound as cool, but I'll run my electrons in an orbit around your nucleic IC's! Muhahahha LOL
 
There are a few guys who have built electric cars - Joe Selwa Elconand Paul gresty Hormann, the most of us like the smell of 2 stroke.
 
Keep posting bud, it's all to do with the hobby so I for 1 are intrested in your models and all pictures of them....

Keep posting man. I enjoy the pics and following your body build thread. I have run brushless trucks in the past, and currently own a brushless Mini Recon. Its a blast, and runs forever! Wish I could afford brushless on my buggy, but its too expensive at the moment.

Personally I would rather have electric than petrol engined cars as stated its quieter and more go in them but conversions are too dear for moi.

i was looking into making a conversion for the on road but its the cost of the parts needed,i wasnt a fan of the no noise brigade but i think its the way ahead and in the next 5-10 years when petrol gets to 50 quid a litre us 2 strokers wont be able to play it will cost a tenner to warm them up
 
I just got my first large scale 2 days ago and am loving it. I have to admit I would have never bought one if it had not been because I got hooked on a1/16 brushless traxxas. It is too soon for me to tell if I would ever consider converting the big one to brushless. As mentioned above there is room for both. One thing I am not a fan of is the limited run time and battery maintenance (ie when to charge for future use, which one is ready). All that is also due to the fact that am not experienced with electric (3 months ago i did not own any or new anything abt rc stuff). From my perspective, gas powered ones seem easier to use as long as they are maintained well which would apply to both. I could probably use a big rc electric if I could be assured of one hour run time.

there is enough room here for us all...

Sadly though the majority of us are 2 strokers and prefer the quick setup time without the charge time waiting...that was always my biggest problem with my electrics..

as the conversions come down in price and the manufacturers start making more and more brushless cars as standard you will probably find we all have more input into them...

I just cant beat the fact you just pour in some fuel and fire it up for 45mins of runtime...then once in a while stick the reciever pack and tranny to charge..

Excellent point. However, with 150C batts coming down the pike, looks like 45 min runs for electrics too. Also, having extra batteries can keep the fun going and allow some much needed cool down time for the motor. Change overs can be expidited by quick release batt clamps. That would make the change over time about the same as a refuel.
