Hi all,
Been reading a lot about vented clutch bells..sounds like a good idea if running high gears with big motors..44x20 up to 42x22 is gonna get very hot so obviously a vented clutch bell is gonna let some of the heat out and help stop frying the clutch..:2guns
These things are kinda pricey ..been on DDM and Fleabay etc...
Hows about drilling the stock FG clutch bell..its not hardened..well mine isnt so has anyone out there tried drilling holes and making their own vented clutch bell???

A friend of ours has a marder with a home drilled bell.If you seen it you could hardly tell the difference and it works a treat too!

i recently fitted a fg vented clucth bell, nice piece plus fitted competiton gear shaft as well.
i would get the proper vented one not drill old one!!!
cheers

I run a vented one. You might get a bit of dirt in now and again but not had a bad time with it at all. You can make your own just make sure you make your holes exactly opposite of each other.

I think i might give this a go, to reduce some heat as im running 22/42 on my spur and clutch and ive just melted my 2nd gear carrier plate. (alloy one on order)
1 silly question though, why do the holes need to be exactly opposite each other ?

I recommend hardened clutch bell and central shaft to anyone, cause they are hardened, longer lasting, less wear, better cooling of the clutch, easier cleaning.

About the plastic gear carrier, that one of the first things to upgrade to alloy version.
Holes for the screws on newer versions are not only opposite, but also on 90° cause it's smaller chance that it will unscrew and spin.
So you can tighten it on 3 points instead of 2, but use hardened central shaft with it.
