I take it you are talking about the pinion that runs on the diff gear,,,,
Back off both grub screws fully,,soak with wd40 , crc, or whatever and either tap it off with a hammer handle or screwdriver handle.(has to be hard,but softer than the shaft & gear), persistance pays off.

No doubt a little rusty inside the gear, which has locked it on.
 
just had the same problem myself with my baja spur gear it was seized on to the layshaft, i used a bicycle cone spanner which i got in behind the spur and used as a lever , but had to give a good soaking with wd40 and then 3in1 light oil, after lots of swearing and brute strenth:clown: it came off, have now cleaned the layshaft up with low grit emery paper so the spur comes on and off with ease.
 
I sat mine through a socket and drifted the shafted out with a piece of 10mm bar & a big hammer :hammer: Came out 2nd hit :clown: Mine was due to them evil little grub screws (:cursing:) being rounded off tho and not actually being seized to the shaft.
