well a track is after opening near me so i have in mind a leopard race comp model, full 2011 spec,FG magura brakes.

anybody here racing them,if so you may be kind enough to let me know what you think,or even if you know of some lads racing them, you may of heard a little bit.

i plan on doing a build thread maybe on it on a few forums,
so anything i ought to know or be aware of about the model before i go and build?

I've raced the FG leopard 2 this year and in my opinion, it's the best car on the market pound for pound for what you get in the box. If you let me know where you are and what you'd like to know then I'd be happy to help.
I've had a 2 year lay off from racing and in this, my first year back I finished 10th over all. This year we had three cars in the UK national championship with 2 finishing in the top 10.

A couple of things do spring to mind....

The side pods being ABS are prone to cracking, I use the Triple 'A' Racing poly prop version - I'll post photos of this.

The wire mounts for the exhaust are not the best, I use the alloy battery bar moddified - I'll post photos of this too.

I cut a hole in the shell for the pull start which I mount upwards rather than pointin out the back.

There are a better selection of springs (softer than supplied in the kit).

I mount the battery on the side pull start side, side pod.

I use an old Marder window grill for the front window.

I use 20,44,15,48 gears.

I have the hydraulic layshaft brake

I use 17mm steel square drives all round.

I'm sure there is more but I'll post other stuff later.

Mike

p.s the build is easy, just do it right lol.

thanks mike for that info.

i will post some pics when it arrives,i will keep the tips in mind.

the one i'm going for is hydrolics all round and is the very latest spec.

havn't a clue what gearing,i suppose i will leave that alone until i get it to the track.

feel free to post up pics or any more info, and thanks again mike!!

Strictley speaking there isn't a "latest spec".

They do....

a full car with hyrdos all round

a full car with the hydro layshaft (you then buy you own choice of front brake)

a rolling chassis for those people who already have brakes, engine & pipe.

The layshaft brake with front brakes is the way to go because outboard brakes on the rear of an off road car don't work.

Where are you getting the car from?

Make sure the shocks have orange o rings in the kits because this is standard in all cars produced after June 2011, otherwise it's "old stock".

The gearingI use is fine for the UK tracks.

well i doubt that information is correct now about the layshaft brake
as i was reccomended to get the one with hydros all around as it was the latest spec.

3 models

1/ basic kit -

2/ layshaft brake model

3/ full latest 11 spec with the latest style pipe which is slightly differnt upfront where it is mounted via springs with a more straight travel out from the engine, also full hydros all around with engine quick fix device similar to proper race models like EVO

the gearbake model has a differnt system here where the quick engine fix device is differnt

if you wanted to swap your one to hydros all round you would need
to change a lot on it around the layshaft and engine

the top buggies all been raced now have brakes on 4 corners

not saying anything is wrong with layshaft hydros but less acurate IMO

mike,

i am living in uk cornwall

i am getting my info from fg direct as i have been in contact with the website before making any decision on a product.

me and a group of lads are planning on doing the BRCA next year from here,at the moment we have our own track set up in a plot of land,we have timing gear set up too,it's all pretty high spec to be honest for a track just made in a back garden.

thanks again mike!!

where is tha track././?/ i don't know it...
i must find it..... )))

well to be honest my first asumption was either of the brake systems would be good but i just am a fan of the hydrolics.

i am buying it from rc.car.online.de

It's 100% your choice pal but from experience I know as do others, the rear outboard brakes just get full of crap and don't work. I have hydraulics on the front and a hydraulic layshaft brake.

The layshaft brake kit if you're buying the car with brakes all round is here http://rc-car-online-shop.de/shop/e...onversion-kit-for-gear-brake-leopard-set.html

This would give you what most think is the best set up, it would also leave you with a spare caliper.

If you went for this car http://rc-car-online-shop.de/shop/e...-gear-plate-brake-incl-body-shell-1-pce-.html

You'd be able to pick your own front brakes such as these http://rc-car-online-shop.de/shop/e...mecatech-twin-piston-hydraulic-brake-set.html

thank you mike again for the help.
it seems you had a good year your self no doubt.

i will have to decide which model to get now but i'm fairly sure it will be the hydros in al 4 corners.

that track looks awesome and not too far from me just maybe 2hr spin or less, can't beieve i havn''t known about it:rolleyes:

No problem, you'll meet a guy called finchy down at KORT - a proper nice chap, see him for your wheels & tires, he may do you a deal if you mention me.

BTW if you do go for the brakes all round, mount the rear hubs with the flat caliper mount facing forward as this will afford your calipers some protection against the crap flicking up into the wheel.
