ok people i've been on the FG band wagon for about 4 months now and i think i've bought a lemon or fg arn't all there cracked up to be, i haven't had 1 single run out with it (nearly every weekend since buying it) without something breaking (i,e mounts, wishbones, hubs, roll cage etc etc by the way replaced them all with alloy parts) and today was the last straw:mad:, one of the small washers/spacer thats on the gudeon pin that holds the piston to the con rod disintergrated and has now destroyed my engine :(( i think its either 27cc or 29cc CY engine it say 34FL and 0508 on it). so my dilemma is do i buy a new engine (if so what do you recommend) or do i give up on FG, break my marder for parts on ebay and go back to my nitro savage (which by the way ive had for 4 years and hasnt really caused me any problems)
please enlighten me on this situation
thanks gary:cool:

ok ill think about it can you tell me what engine you think it is from the codes

no idea mate the only real way of finding out the engine size is measure the piston its most probaly a cy or zenoah 2 bolt and its a easy fix new headkit done as long as bottom end is ok much cheaper than a new one

The engine breaking is terrible, just my experiece the first month I run any new RC, I have something broken after every bash. Then after about 4 tanks through all the week parts are replaced. Also I run pretty rich during this time. This is how everything happened when running nitro and now 1/5 seems to be following a similar patern

To answer your question ,as Ren said ,don't give up! I have had about 14 odd large scale in 8-9 years and they have all had lots of parts replaced on them. It's the way you drive to be honest. I thrash mine to bits and expect breaks. If you baby them they will last forever but thats not what they are there for.I have(few months ago) blown an ESP ported engine on my 5T and it's just one of those things( main bearing popped).
I started out with a standard MT and in the end it was a full alloy to make sure I didnt break anything. On the other hand I run with people with bog standard cars and they have not had a problem.
You have to remember the weight of these things as well, they aren't the light nitro's that you are used to and when they crash they crash!
If you want a GOOD engine ,go for a DDM BB 24.5CC head kit. These are excellent and have all the power you will need.
Here are a few vids with the kit on a standard bottom end.The beetle has a Samba pipe but the Pajero is running a STANDARD can!.
The 5T is running a Jetpro .

ddm will have headkits, as far as your dilemmna i feel your pain i have been going through the same thing with my baja 5bss which i bought new and i DO feel teh exact same way as you. just hang in there, i have spent over 2k on my baja since i purchased it but i havenet bother replacing a single stock part with another stocker unless the part was replaced by pi under warranty and instead opted to replace stock with aftermarket hop up :D

You can buy a BNIB CY 26 for under a ton minus carb and clutch.

ok voo2doo ive put that in myebay
why does everyone seem to recommend a 26cc engine whats wrong with the 29cc surely the bigger the cc the bigger the power
just to let you know on this engine thats just died :( i had a 668 carb and samba race pipe) if im gunna rebuild or buy a new one then i want it to be more powerful.
ive just measured the bore and its 35mm but i do have another head which is 31mm bore and a flat head piston that i got in a box of spares off ebay can anyone shed light on this for me
sorry to sound like a real newbie but if im staying on the fg band wagon i want to know what im dealing with
if ya don't ask ya don't learn ;)

You can get a headkit cheap (ddm) ive had my marder for for 5 months, for the first 3 months i watched while everyone raced!!! Thats because something always broke or didnt work(i came from nitro and thought id left these problems behind)then i finally got everything together and have ran for the last 2 months problem free(touch wood)i know exactly how it feels, probably just like the other 90% of all the other largescale owners on this forum.don't give up as when it all comes together , it makes total sense and is truelly worthwhile.

thanks

Oh,forgot to say. When you order from DDM if its under 18 GBP it will be ok ,if you order over that ther will be an import charge(normally 8.00) plus a Royal mail extortion fee of 4.00GBP.

not sure on your mesurments mate but 32mm piston stock crank is 23cc
36mm stock crank is a 29cc

the bigger the engine the more torque its got thats the shove that gets things moving

don't think just cause its a 23cc [the spare one]that its no good i would have a 23cc over most engine ive had 26cc cy a 29cc ddm 23cc zen now got a 23cc 4bolt oddified engine with 6hp the stock 23cc can be fun when teamed up with a good pipe there a tad under 5hp its the way they love to rev i like, there allways reving to the point of screeming, if it was me id build up the 23 save some money if you don't like it you have lost nothing and it gives you time to find what you want plus its free youve allready got it there

Check out the thread 'Marder No 2' if you want to see a rough marder :scared: I knew it was a lemon when I bought it - just needs some ££££ polishing into it then happy days :cool2: You need to be patient mate and breakages at just part of the hobby. Sometimes the timing is sh*te tho

well if my engine was to go and i had the funsd i would consider 1 of 2 option personally.

first depending on funds i would build myself a motor using a ts 4-bolt reed case, 30.5cc head kit, +2mm stroker stuffed crank (although this is the preferred it is also least likely due to cost of reed case aloe LOL)

second, purchase a full ported and modded 4 bolt 30.5cc engine similar to above except it not be a reed cased motor :D
