Hey guys,

I wanted to put FG slicks (front & back) on my FG competition MT.
Everything on my truck is stock. No other modifications
Is this set up going to work if I swap the monster truck tires to slicks for some on-road bashing? or something might not fit or the clearance will be too low???

Please let me know.

FG Makes M/T (8 inch) slicks too, there is a set on here for sale.. But the 6 inch slicks will fit just fine and you shouldn't have any clearance problems. They may look a little funny being so small though.
 
no they will look ok id get 2 sets of rears the wider ones that will look ok take a look a supers truck hes got the smaller mammoth ones on his all round and that looks fat and goes wicked

I just asked to see who has them... I swear I just saw them in the classified section, but now I don't see them... They will pop up, I'm sure!

I'll let you know if I find any.

thanks for the link.
I called hobby teck and the guy quoted me for 2 pairs, with chrome rims PLUS shipping will be around 280-290 euros which is around $370-$380 bucks.

Also, he told me that if i buy the FG slicks which they make for the street monster truck (145mm vs. the 170mm sld slicks which you mentioned), i would need to change my gear ratios.

Do you think it is necessary to change the gear ratio if the get the FG slicks instead of the sld slicks?

If the new tyres you are thinking of getting are smaller than the ones you are all ready using, then yes you will have to get different gear set as it will be way to under geared and the engine will out rev.

Fitting bigger wheels---Then you will have to lower the gearing and viceversa.

Ok, I ordered the slicks yesterday :w00t:
They should be roughly the same size at the MT5 monster tires so I don't think i will need to change any gear ratio's at this point.

Is your reason general lack of grip on dirt / gravel / sealed surfaces?
Do you have a lot of grass as well?
I'm curious to my options as well. I don't believe they'll have much traction on grass but am curious!!

Im planning to run on asphalt mainly. Going to set up cones and make a mini track and race around the course.
Im tired of racing in dirt/sand because i hate cleaning the truck afterwards and also im tired of rebuilding shocks.
 
Atom, can u please post a pic of your shocks and shock set up?

also, where did you get your shocks?

I have the smaller diameter 8-shock set-up - I've now fitted alloy pistons, etc., rebound springs.
My oil I reckon's a tad viscous - I actually forget what I've got in!!
I believe I've got 4000 front, 5000 rear, or 3000 front, 4000 rear.
Judging by performance, I would guess the rear is OK, the front needs to be stiffer.
I've got red springs at the front, blue at the rear.
I forget which length shocks I've actually got, they're quite long, possibly the 7202.
I've now put shorter shafts on, and the shorter option alloy piston rod ends, to lower the stance.
I'm on placement for a few weeks in Mexico, and return in a couple of weeks, so all is from memory.
One post has confirmed my thoughts of removing the rear sway bar - give more rear independence. I reckon Super is right, but only one way to find out.

I found a set of 8 on Fleabay before I bought the truck, as I knew I was going shiny!!
I've replaced all O-rings anyway when I changed from the funny black triangular plastic things to the Al / O-ring pistons.
The O-rings I removed were mainly good, but some were quite fatigued.
In operation, I do hammer it, but don't jump it much - heavy and expensive!!
No leaks in 6 months' operation.
The threads on the caps each end of the '04' option FG 7200 series shocks are slightly 'tight' which doubtless helps a lot.

Just 'surfing' whilst watching the 1st Episode of V - Mexico just started y'day and the local provider stuffed the images with 'servicing'. Perhaps it was planned, perhaps it was through flak received during yesterday's showing, but they're re-running.
I remember the 1st edition in the 80's. This is quite impressive.
You guys in USA have had the showing in September last year, so no 'secrets' please!! I'm :offtopic: again. Bad habit.
