As for gearing..that 50 tooth gear would give you a increase in top end...
Look at the baja speed gears for example: 18 pinion & 55 diff gear...that is a speed set up

small pinion, large spur is bottom end take off. large pinion is top speed.

it is going to work the same on the dif gear and layshaft gear as they have to match.

I run a 22 pinion on on road with small tires. that 22 doesn't have to turn as many revolutions to spin a complete rev of the spur as does say a 14 pinion
 
I just found speed gear set up they use on road car for fg...23 pinion & 69 diff gear..

Thanks guys. The 50 would give me a better gear mesh with the current motor mounts. I did get the left aluminum mount but have not yet found the right. I can see where this has been my gear breaking problem. With the plastic mounts after about half tank the motor would actually be loose.
