hi guys :)

Looking for some feedback..

Changes from stock Chassis:
6.0mm thick Aluminium Chassis, grade 6082 T6 (2mm thicker than stock!)
Length: 594mm, end to end (Opposed to the stock 590mm)
Rear width (where diff is) extra 2mm each side
Front extra 2mm length

These will be FG Monster/Marder 2WD & Brand New.

Price: around £50 + P&P (still discussing the figures) so thats roughly half the price of the stock chassis!

However for these prices I need to order a minimum of 15 ..so who would be interested?

cheers

I maybe able to sort out 4WD but would need the plans (for where the mounting holes etc need to be drilled)

cheers

If I'd known ..... a few months ago, I might have been interested - that will create a TANK!!
Have you thought of stretching the MT a little - someone else does that, giving a 535mm instead of the standard 470mm (??) ?
Problem with 2mm thicker is longer screws will be required for mounting - if that's a problem.
Al.

i would but to be honest the stock one on mine is more than up to the job,,i added a extra plate on front kick up 5mm thick since doing that its been fine it even came from ebay bent one of my bargains only cost 7.50+p+p and a good whack or 2 with a lump hammer and it was straight and still in good shape

if on the other hand you was to go longer as atom said then id be in as thats worth doing even if the costs go up a bit

i was thinking about longer, maybe thats the way to go then, So basically about an extra 6cm in length would be good?

is 6082 a good alloy, ive read up some on it over the past & it seems like it be up for the job, the 7075 im looking into, but im guessing this will be mighty expensive so prob gunna stick with the 6082 grade.

Now the hard part is me drawing up the plan of the chassis to send!

wish there were some on net but ive looked everywhere, cant find! :(

I'm not knocking the idea at all, I've thought of using a touring car chassis before now, but"better" quality alloy at 8mm like you're suggesting won't bend and still be strong according to an aero engineer friend of mine.

oki doke cheers

Hi Daz, sounds great.
If you're looking into a longer chassis, as you'll know with your Monster Beetle, the side braces won't be long enough, which is one of the things that put me off the other 'source'.

I'd misread your original post; 4-5mm thicker than standard really would be a tank!! 7mm thick, or 3mm thicker (?) than standard you'd think would be pretty damned strong!!

I've banned myself from other 'hobby' purchases for 3 months, so I've got to be fair, but it's an interesting proposition!!

I'm sure Voo'll have one, just to try of course!!:rolleyes::lol:

Al.

Decided to go with the 7mm thickness to keep the weight down.

Aye guess thats the only downside really, but should be worth it for the extra strength & length :)

How would you go on for bodyshells if the wheel base was longer?

If you make it the same wheel base as the HPI you could be the new 'CLONE' manufacturer :lol:

lol \o/

the mounting for the shell would look similar to this:

the problem is with an XL chassis, then gunna need to get longer throttle/brake rods & also the rollcage (extra 5cm) will fall short on monsters so would also need to get/make longer front roll cage pieces.. not too sure what to do now :( I will need to have a think!

changing the bit over to run xl length i not that bigger deal as rons done all he hardwork for us and left it for all to read in his build its just a case of adaping to you car

as for the extra weight again not to much of a problem my cars only got better with the extra weight of all the alloy it handles much better now

and if you decided t only build stok length then thats cool a well for that sort of money a 7mm thick high grade alloy chassis either way i think im in but would rather a 535 spec

ok guys if your definately interested please pm me, im still undecided yet weather to go extended or normal size but the chassis will be 6-7mm thick so much stronger than the stock but at pretty much half the price!

if you are interested, just pop me a mail with what youd prefer... normal or extended, extended will be 5cm longer than the stock chassis.

For this time the chassis will be for 2WD Monsters/Marders, simply because i don't have the plans or an actual 4WD chassis to make the plans so i don't know where the holes are to be drilled etc.

The cost will be as i mentioned earlier around the £50 mark + postage.

But please don't say you want one & when the time comes you decide you don't or you cant afford it! ..like i say i need to order minimum of 15 to get this price!

Once its ready to go I will require the payment & then i shall place the order. The 1st part of the process is a supplier who will be cutting the chassis to shape from a sheet of 6082 T6 grade alluminium, i will then be sending them to another manufacturer for the precise drilling of the holes etc. The whole process will probably take around 2 weeks from when you pay, to when you recieve it.

Cheers guys.

update guys :)

ok ive sorted out the cad file for the chassis, still hunting around now for suppliers, had a few quotes etc.

For the time being ive decided to do the chassis the same as the original (but thicker - 6mm) & also a few tweaks, but basically you wont need to do any modifying as you would have done with the extended.

Price will be around the £50-£60 mark which compared to the normal FG chassis (which costs around the £100 mark) i think its a pretty good price! not to mention its 6mm thick opposed to the 4mm of the stock chassis & like i say also added a few tweaks to it, more details on it soon as well as a cad image :)
