What's good guys! I have change my mind once agin but this time I want y'all to help me out!
I just sit down and looked at the FG trucks off road/on road.
What is better the FG, HPI, or king motor?
Now a lot of people say 4x4 is the way to go but can you have as much fun with it as a 2x2?
The FG's look good and they seem to be quick! I know if I go with the FG it will be x-mass but the king motor in a few weeks, hpi in Nov. What is better out of FG and hpi?

If you are comparing a FG 4 wheel drive to a HPI 2 wheel drive you are comparing oranges with apples. The thing I like about the HPI baja is parts are easy to get they are every where, price of parts and has much support from after market.

Have seen some have problems getting parts for a FG not that it happens every day. If I am not mistake but I could be, not much has changed with the FG vehicles over the last 5 or so years not that much has change with the HPI but it is coming.

I all so recommend you check out the MCD vehicles but are more expensive. If I was going to get a top shelf RC I more then likely would go MCD but once again price and availability of parts. http://www.largescalerc.com/mcdracing4x4.aspx

I will not even get into clones like KM as all I will do is start a argument. I am sure what ever you get you will have fun.

Thanks and hopefuly more will write in on what is the top of the line or even the top two. Love HPI i have a savege truck love it, just the nitro sucks.
I will be getting something new by x-mass there is so much to choose from. The kingmotor got my atention with the price and a lot of people said HPI parts bolt on.
But my first time ever seeing a 1/5 scale it was a FG hummer about 4years ago and it was bad ass. Now that I have my redcat TT and savege now its time for another the question is what one. On my other post I have an FG on road race truck I think I will get that in March unless HPI new 1/8 truck seems to be better. So guys I need your help this is a hard task!!!

Nothing wrong with KM etc.

Out of the two makes you mention and depending what you want it for (bashing or racing)..........Bashing, go with the HPI, fairly robust, cheap parts, spares easily accessible, upgrades plentiful.

I have seen plenty of FG's and HPI's bashing and if I'm honest the HPI seem to last longer, FG's (that I have seen) always had drive problems after a little while. Others may say opposite just giving my thoughts based on experience.

The FG's have been around a lot longer and the cheaper ones are old designs, all nice cars in fact I still love the Marder (probably) the oldest deisng of the more modern large scale cars, a little smaller than the standard 1/5th scales but they have plenty of space to work in and around.

Racing......FG's.

Whatever you chose, HPI, FG, MCD, Harm, Contrast, Hurrax, Lauterbacher, KM, Red Cat blah blah blah blah......you will spend a small fortune on upgrades and spares.

Out of myself and my 2 mates, we regularly run an HPI Baja, a Shengqi Baja clone and i run an FG marder.
Over the last 6 months we've all had a few problems. Im running Fg monster wheels on my marder chassis and ive snapped one front lower arm and 1 hub. Replaced with monster front end. Also had to replace the clutch pinion and spur due to wear.
Both Baja's have gone through 2 sets or rear tyres due to them tearing side to side. Each has also had 2 new sets of gears, lower front arms and both have had body damage. Slightly worrying, both baja's have bent their chassis at some point. To the point the rear drive was damaged due the rear gear box falling out of allignment.

Having worked on all three regularly the FG is a lot easier to work on. Parts wise theyre all pretty easy to get hold of if you know where to look, tho the FG parts seem a little cheaper at times.

Would also like to add the FG tho being a lot simpler in construction doesn't seem to sacrifice any strength because of it.

Another detail to consider with the FG is the interchangability of parts from other vehicles.

Hpi baja for bashing Mcd for road racing or rally also losi 5ive T for dirt track racing

I have had my HPI 5b SS for about 3 years.
I agree stock tires do not last long but there are after market that last much longer.

I have never broke a A arm front or rear other then the old style at the shock mount but once I put the updated HPI rear A arms on never had a problem since. Never had a gear or transmission problem but I keep my gear box serviced properly. I have lawn darted my 5b many times off a jump and never bent a chassis but I do have the Turtle HD upper brace both front and rear as well as the Scorpion lower front chassis brace.

A lot of how well a RC vehicle will hold up has a lot to do with how well it is maintained. With out proper maintenance does not matter what brand you buy it will not hold up. I have a saying and this is not direct towards any one in particular but some can mess up an anvil with a rubber hammer.

Do you have a 5ive T or how do you know how good the 5ive T is? Not saying it is good or bad but until it is in the end users hands we do not know. A lot of the Losi 1/8 scale had problems and I do hope the 5ive T is different. The 5ive T has potential but has not proven anything to this point. I have never been one to have to say I am the first one on the block with a new RC as I let others figure out how good they are or find out the weak points. ;)

I agree, to be honest there isnt a great deal of difference reliabity wise. Each has its pro's and cons but which to buy is down to buyers preferance. How well it holds up tho is down to the owner... Hence why i maintain more than my own.

When I was racing both nitro and gas being I am not the best driver many asked how I did as well as I did. The reason was because I rarely DNF do to keeping my vehicles maintained so well. After a weekend of racing I spend 8 to 15 hour checking things out, cleaning and doing maintenance before the next race. I have never DNF with my HPI baja even on some off road tracks that had so fairly big jumps. To me a good day of racing is starting and finishing and everything else is a bonus. I did one time with my HPI baja have a guy come off a jump and T bone the back of my baja and break the right left shock in two. I did not place real well but I did finish the race. LOL

Now need to see how it holds up against other 4 WD and 5 or 6 gallons of run time by a end user.

In a race comparing 2WD to 4WD is like comparing oranges with apples.

/QUOTE]

If they where only running against 2WD they did not have to push them to the limits to beat them. I am not saying the 5ive is bad I am saying the verdict is not in yet. ;)

I'm a basher mostly, so I'm looking for somthing that can take a beating and keep going. I've seen on u tube FG's going hard. I have a redcat tt that I will call my off road racer. So I think 2wd is the way to go just for bashing!

I have several FG's and and an HPI 5T. Hands down the quality and fun factor is with the 5T. The FG MT is a nose dive central vehicle. It jumps like trash and of those jumps they can't be very big. At first before I used my 5T a lot you would have heard a different opinion from me. But now that I have used them all for years now it's HPI all the way.

As said one of the main things is parts. They are big, heavy and fast. Physics my friend, physics, they are going to break. Baja parts are in most shops, all over the internet like ebay and specialty shops like DDM which is the king of parts support.

If you want a monster truck just get the MT wheels for your TT and the body. Thats all it pretty much is anyways so keep that in mind.

The bad rip off of the KM shouldn't even be mentioned and they should be in court for what they are doing. Piece of junk, you get what you pay for.

On road I vote FG everyday all day. Love my on roads.

HPI baby.

Come to find out Adam Drake was running a 28 BZM in his Losi 5ive T at Hostile Bajafest. Most including I cannot afford a $1,000 to $1,200 engine and most do not have the driving experience he has. LOL Do not get me wrong but the Losi is looking really good I just do not feel it has proven it self yet.
