Hi All

Help needed with a purchase please!!

I am after getting into large scale after having 1/8th nitro truggies and buggies!...I wont be racing, just bashing.

I just cant decide between the new V4 MCD monster truck or a FG ,and to confuse myself more ...2wd or 4wd!!!???

My problem is im a real power junkie and have spoken to a few dealers and have pretty much decided on a 6 hp engine and pipe combo so thats sorted!!....so the truck...

My favourite is the MCD visually but when i look on youtube they look far slower then the fg's probabaly down to size and complex drive system i pressume. But when i look at videos of 2wd monster beetles they look crazy fun, but i know the 4wd is a newer more advanced truck!

So this is why im confused!, i will be hill climbing , sand dunes and general bashing! i love power and performance and wont be racing so handling not too important, but will 2wd suffer on rough terrain and hills? so MCd or Fgf 2wd or 4wd

help PLEASE!!!!!!

I have about £1400 budget including servos and engine

Many thanks

hi mate i have owned and used a 4wd fg baja mcd evo 3 and a mcd v4 and the mcd's win hands down how ever you will not get a v4 everything including engine and pipe for the budget you have. I would seriously look at the hpi baja this is something i have also owned and thought it was awesome as for the monster truck thing they are basically the same base with big tires the choice of tires available for the baja's are endless and will not dissapiont you on the hills etc.

you will need a serious amount of power to make an mcd as fast and fun as a hpi baja for bashing due to loosing power through drive train you can get a baja ss it for 750 and your set to go with engine the lot with plenty of power for bashing this is the best option in my eyes

i agree with jackrod i have a fg marder and just got rid of a fg monster truck and just finished my baja ss kit and i was very impressed with it and the hop ups and following it has are second to none and it is just great to build it from the ground up. Baja all the way for value for money and bashing appeal!

Hi Jackrod

Thankyou for the reply!

You mentioned the drive train on the MCD..thats also whats putting me off!!!! nobody has commented on the fg 2wd and 4wd yet!

Lots of people reccomending the HPI Bajas, but they just don't do it for me unfortunately!

go the V4 for racing, if just bashing cant go past the FG, once you put a steel spur and alloy engine mounts on its one of the most duarbale bashes on the market.

I ran 40 tanks+ in my FG MT and have done the same in my FG Baja 4WD

I say go for an FTX Destoryer, its durable and not that heavy plus good price.
If you go for an mcd then you need to get the upgraded diffs IMO.
The FG MTs are nice.
There are other options like the Redcat rampage or the future model from redcat called the XT. XT looks promising.

im a big fg fan i like hill climbing its good fun ive done it a couple of times with my fg bug along with my mcd mate there wasnt any real difference between them they both got to the top i personly feel 2wd is more fun and teaches you car control as you have to tame the beast with the 4wd you just floor it as said above 4wd will lose some power through the drive train this is true in 1/1 scale as well so 2wd for me is the way get yourself a fg beetle or marder one of the cheapest at the mo and the engine youve got planed and head for the hills

Thanksall for posts so far!!

Okay im thinking now maybe 2wd FG beetle for fun factor.. So next question...

What should I do to make it better??/...on ebay a company in germany sells a HE edition which has so stronger alloy upgrades worth aparently 200euros ,but what would you guys do??...for strenth and longivity mainly!

Cheers!

i done the lot mate in anything i could find cheap of ebay i got the bug but if i was starting again id only bother with front bulkheads engine mounts and a alloy diff plus alloy hubs f+r that would work well and take loads of abuse then just add power+tuned pipe.on my beetle the only parts plastic are the rollcage and rose joints left there for a weak link so it don't break the alloy

the ftx destroyer is a very good car for the price and is also a monster truck which is what ya want as for the mcd vs hpi vs fg it really is hourses for courses I can honestly say all three makes have pros and cons and depends on you as a driver to which you like some people swear by the there models and hate other makes personally i think out of mcd and fg which is what you have narrowed it down to they are both awesome an will provide many hours of fun you just need to decide which you prefer mate

alloy engine mounts are just about the only must have in my opinion. steel spur is a good idea but other than that I didnt upgrade anything and never had any problems and I used to jump mine every time I took it out!
