So I've had all the stuff to get my XB-E put together but I haven't been in the mood and have had other things going on.

Leopard 5698 720KV, 12S, FighterCat 16S 300A ESC, geared 9/41.

I was about half way through a battery when I noticed that the shaft end bell was loose. All 4 screws were loose and one was missing. The end bell had about 3/16 to 1/8 of play. This caused a real bad wear pattern on my pinion. I'm hopinh that this also was what caused my >200 degree temps. I don't think it was this hot for very long so I hope it will be OK. I spun the shaft by hand after I got the motor back together and it felt OK.

ESC held up well but there was some cogging from a stand still. I'll work on tweaking some settings. ESC and batterys were barely above ambient temp.

Nah, not for a few months. I sent my ESC back to Ben for a firmware update. He couldn't get it to re-flash so he sent mine back along with a new one with the updated firmware.

I also added (4) 1000 uF caps to my ESC.

I ran about half a battery this morning until I spun a wheel hex.

Anyway I'm still having problems with my gear mesh. I used a stip of paper folded in half to set the mesh. Does this look like it was too tight?

Yikes! Looks like you are losing material off your pinion! You need to set the mesh with something a little thicker, like a business card or the top of a Cornflakes packet.

Which 9T pinion are you running?

N

It was a Robinson.

The motor seems to be none the worse for wear after the high temps.

I changed the motor timing from 5 to 2 degrees and there seemed to be a big difference.

:eek:Did it do that with a plastic spur?

Is that a hardened pinion gear? I am running a hardened 9t pinion with a 48t metal spur and a 5698 and don't have that kind of wear. Is that a KD motor mount? If so did you have to drill the chassis for it? One of my friends drilled the chassis a little off and it did the same thing, as long as you put it together and did not have to force it you should be fine.

That's gnarly!

The robinson pinion is described as "Xhard".

Yes it is a KD mount and no I didn't have to drill the chassis. I think you only have to do that with the Castle motor.

Xhard hey, hmmmm, might be x-hard for a plastic spur gear, not a metal one.
