I built out the fg baja 4wd and here are some pics. I will be putting an entire video and write up about the process. I found some quirky thinks that i didnt like about the model but over all it was good.

uhm... why an alone steering servo? i use two rhino in mine...

if u want u can put the batteries on the radio tray if u cut a bit the support.... (shorten) (pyramid 3x2)

Thanks for the advice. I would use two but i only got one for now. Will see how it holds up i might end up getting more. however $$$$$ is tight now :-) Thanks for the tip on the batteries. I have a few tweaks still

I really thought the FG 4wd Looked cool. It is heavy as hell. and i think the front shock springs are not strong enough. But other than that.. Well there are a few things that were odd during my build hopefully i will be able to get this article done by next week.

I have both. It really depends on what you will be doing.

I wanted a car to be able to race at the local club. The current stock FG Baja I have is proving to fragile and the upgrade costs to the alloy parts means it's cheaper to just purchase a new car. Appreciate the Cleon is a 2WD car, but that class is bigger, so more people to race. However the FG 4WD just looks like a real fun car to drive and I have been really impressed with the quality of the FG upgrade parts I have ordered so far.

However I have heard several people now complain about the weight, to the point it really starts to impact performance.

The 4WD is a fun car. I've build the 4WD comp and have the sportsline version myself with a few upgrades. I think the car handles better with the regular diameter wheels, and you can always gear it up. The sportsline plastic used feels like a different material compared to their older plastic. (I've had several FG's over the past 5 years)

The Cleon is a whole new beast. The best buggy I've ever built and driven. Suspension feels like a 1/8 buggy. Helical gears are super smooth and it rolls as if there is no drivetrain. The airbrake option is the best thing you can get for it too, a full 360 braking system. Plus it's an easy car to work on. The built it for racing and are always looking for ways to improve it.

Good write up. Just a few things I noticed.

The philips head that is part of the spark plug tool and is the same on most that comes with kits. This FG Comp model comes Torx screws and bolts but most others from FG are Philips. Not sure why they did this.
The brake guide hole you mentioned is for the cable brakes. When using hydros you just slip it underneath.

cool i didn't think about the spark plug. As far as the hole in the instructions there is a brake rail that says to use a center hole for the hydro. I still need to do a few tweaks and put a longer servo horn on the steering and bleed the brakes better. Can't wait

Let us know how you like it. I enjoy running mine. If I finish wrenching on the Elcon tomorrow I'm gonna work on the 4WD next. Need to change the flywheel cooling fan. Missing a few fins now but it still runs! LOL :celebrate::celebrate:

Ok i just finished my first tank off. For starters a metal servo horn is mandatory! I stripped my out really fast. So now i have a metal one. Second i was shocked to see how fast a 30lbs car can go even at 1/2 throttle. I would hate to get hit by it. I do have one question can you substitute the hyro brake oil with something like a light vegetable oil? Just wondering?

I ran it again today 2nd tank. Had it up to full speed for short bursts. Seems fast but now i am thinking i want a 2 speed. Any had any luck with those?

hydro oil

I am using dot 5 silicone brake oil on mine (Bought from napa) I was told not to use different dot rating or oil type
